Fall of the Aeolus satellite

Another large space artifact will end up falling to earth in the coming days, it is a European satellite called Aeolus, it weighs 1,360 kilos, it was launched by the European space agency on August 22, 2018, it had the mission of study the winds all over the planet in order to improve the weather forecast, something essential so that meteorological agencies can give the most reliable part of the weather possible.

Without meteorological agencies, not only would we not know if there will be good or bad weather to go for a walk, it is that planes could not take off, fishing boats could not go out to fish and farmers would lose vital information for their crops, the importance of having Good weather information has been known since the Neolithic when observatories were built to predict the arrival of the seasons.

Now we have scientific method and satellites in the Aeolus it was a good tool and now it has almost completely used up its fuel, this does not mean that it will fall suddenly plumb, the satellites fall in a spiral orbiting the earth closer and closer to Aeolus has been falling from its initial orbit of 320 kilometers at a rate of one kilometer a day, but now the fall is accelerating and will be greater.

The closer the satellite is to earth, the more it will rub against atmospheric gases. The European space agency has calculated that most of the satellite will disintegrate upon entering the atmosphere, but some large fragments may end up hitting the ground, to avoid any risk to people or infrastructures the space agency technicians plan to make a controlled reentry, when the satellite reaches 280 kilometers in height A command signal will be sent so that the satellite uses the remaining fuel residues in order to guide it towards a safe entry path.

That is the plan, if everything works out, because there are factors that cannot be controlled, one of them is solar activity, solar storms swell the upper part of the atmosphere, which makes the satellites brush with more gases and reduce more quickly its speed is like trying to walk with a headwind, so intense solar activity could cause the Aeolus to fall a few days earlier than expected and although the exact day of the fall cannot be predicted right now, it is known what will happen or yes between the end of July and the beginning of August.
