That atom is reactive and in most animals it causes a harmful process, since these free radicals react with proteins and DNA fragments producing harmful mutations, which the tardigrades do apparently have a solution, scientists discovered that radicals free in tardigrades react with the amino acid cysteine that tardigrades have to transform tardigrades into their indestructible state, they confirmed this by canceling this cysteine oxidation process, which made tardigrades unable to enter the shielding state that It allows them to overcome all those problems and achieve that hyper resistance.

It should not be confused that tardigrades could be in a state of torpor, it is a much more complex state, this state of anhydrobiosis is when they achieve this super resistance, and when they pass these extreme conditions of low or high temperature, or a lot of radiation, and when they stop When these critical conditions arise, they leave that state and continue living their normal lives.
