Comet Nishimura (C/2023 P1)

Comet Nishimura (C/2023 P1)

Souce

A new Comet will be visible to the naked eye next September, but it will be the last time we see it, as it will take a path that will leave the solar system.

The Comet was discovered a few days ago, on August 12, 2023 by the Japanese amateur astronomer Hideo Nishimura, which is why it is called Nishimura C/2023 P1, it is a green-tailed comet, its size is difficult to calculate.

It is difficult to calculate the diameter of Comets, since when they are discovered they are usually surrounded by a cloud of gas, which is known as a "coma", but it is believed that this Comet must have a nucleus of at least one kilometer in diameter. long.

It does not pose any risk to the earth since its closest approach to our planet will be on September 12 at about 126 million kilometers, it is estimated that it will be visible to the naked eye, but it will not be easy since it will be visually very close to the sun, which will make it not visible at the time of closest approach to earth.

In the northern hemisphere the Comet will be visible before dawn at very low altitude above the Horizon until the first week of September, from the southern hemisphere it will also be visible before dawn at very low altitude above the Horizon, also until the first week of September .

On September 17, the comet will have its closest approach to the sun, at about 43 million 700 thousand kilometers, closer than Mercury is to the sun, after which our Star will give it a gravitational push that will throw it out of the solar system and transform it into an interstellar comet.
