Breeds that suffer a lot

Breeds that suffer a lot

In reality, trying to preserve suffering breeds of dogs and cats is objectively cruel, it may not be so obvious because we are used to it, after all for thousands of years we have molded the species canis familiaris and felis catus for different uses that we They have served in different contexts.

But there are breeds that by seeking to have a certain appearance on a whim we have given them malformations and health problems so serious that literally for them to exist is a continuous struggle, and this is not only limited to dogs, in the image below it is not a rabbit is a Japanese bobtail cat; If you ask me if you are happy with having a tail instead of a normal tail, I would answer that I think not, cats need a tail to spin in the air and land on their feet like a normal cat.

If you already have a pug or Japanese bobtail cat or in general any breed cat or dog, take care of it, check it and give it the best life you can, but if you were thinking of getting one there are things you should know, all breed cats and dogs They have problems, this is because to highlight the characteristics of a breed they have to be crossed with animals of that same breed and since it is a smaller population of animals that share those characteristics, the genetic variety is reduced.

To keep it pure, breeders seek to cross their animals with animals of the same breed, to the point where they are all too closely related. This causes there to be too many genetic similarities between the animals and this is very bad, most of the harmful mutations and Genetic diseases are recessive, this is good because if you have a gene in your DNA with a mutation or recessive disease, you always have the other copy of DNA, the one you received from your other parent with a healthy version of that gene that is expressed instead of the Defective gene and thus you avoid having the disease.

But if your parents are related, the two copies of DNA that you receive from them will be very similar, they will have more matches and you will have a greater chance that a recessive disease will be in the two copies of DNA and you will end up manifesting a disease, a historical example is hemophilia, a disease where the blood does not clot and whoever has it can die from bleeding from an insignificant wound.

While researching this topic, I came across a book about the predisposition of purebred cats and dogs to certain diseases, and I was impressed with the ridiculous amount of diseases to which Pugs are predisposed. In review, they can suffer from dental mycosis cysts. , adverse effects to vaccines, diabetes, portosystemic shunt, which are two connected veins that should not be connected, overweight, vascular necrosis of the femoral head, hip dysplasia, patellar dislocation, spina bifida, thoracic vertebral malformations, mast cell tumors of mast cells, corneal cancer, lack of development of the vertebrae, intervertebral disc disease, necrotizing meningoencephalitis, bacterial keratitis, cataracts, conjunctivitis, corneal pigmentation, corneal ulceration, distichiasis... there is more, but that's as far as I'm going, I think that the idea has been understood.

When you have a pug, these diseases are in the deck of possibilities much more frequently than in a mixed-breed dog. If any of the diseases I just mentioned made you curious, don't search for it on Google, trust me, all you have to do is To know is that if you look for necrotizing meningoencephalitis, which has the most terrifying name, what appears to you is a pug, literally pugs are the image of a disease that can not only occur in any breed of dog but also in any mammal.

And the worst of all is that pugs are not even the breed with the greatest propensity for diseases, the pug's list is 40 disorders and diseases, but the German shepherd's list is 91, in pugs it is very evident that many of Their diseases derive from the malformations that we have amplified in them through selective breeding.

The German Shepherd breed, although it does not have obvious deformities such as the non-existent nose of brachycephalic breeds or the harmfully short legs in proportion along its torso of a dachshund, has a very long list of diseases just due to inbreeding from breeding. that deteriorates its genetics, the German shepherd can suffer from not one but two types of hemophilia just like the European aristocracy.

I think it is quite clear that a purebred dog or cat is going to have more difficulties being healthy than a mixed breed dog, from an anatomical and genetic point of view and this should be a very good reason but first of all sterilizing them, that their lineage defective ends there, and secondly do not buy animals again, buy animals, it is bad not only because you are paying a lot of money for an animal that is prone to a lot of diseases, but because breeding leads to one of the worst types of exploitation, the reproductive.

It is hell especially for the dogs, the breeders' advertisements show you happy dogs playing in large gardens, but that is not the whole story, you would be surprised at the horrible conditions in which some of the best-known breeders keep the dogs. and respectable, unfortunately breeders continue to exist because many people still think that animals are a good gift, especially at Christmas when a person is not prepared to take care of a living being and receives a puppy, a kitten or any animal, no matter how beautiful and tender. That is, when the novelty wears off, it will become a responsibility that they are not willing to have.

Do not give away a responsibility, because the consequence is the many animals that fill the streets and the shelters, because when they stopped being the novelty they were abandoned, if you want to take care of an animal, you have the space, the time, the resources and You are able to take responsibility, the only option is to adopt and sterilize, sterilizing our furry ones is the only way we make sure we do our part to reduce the number of animals that fill shelters or live in poor conditions.

Thank you for taking the time to do the res arch on purebreds. Maybe this will find someone who needs to see it.

I love all animals but personally prefer cats.

From time to time I foster shelter animals or take in stray animals and re-home them.

Thank you very much, you do a noble job, I wish there were more people like you.

I would also like people to take more responsibility for their pets, so they would suffer less.

Greetings

It’s sad really to see this phenomenon. Recently I listened to a radio interview on this exact matter. Where i live there are some laws in place for dogs to avoid it. For cats however there’s nothing. Let’s hope owners realize more and more what the consequences are for their four legged man’s best friend…

That's right, it is important that people who like pets become aware since they are the main demand in the market, if there is no demand there will be no producers believing they satisfy people's whims and egos.
