This time we are going to Egypt, about 2,300 years ago because Egyptian and German experts have managed to restore the astronomical paintings of the Ancient Temple of Esna.

The images shown are the fruit of the work of 30 specialists and 5 years of effort, cleaning millennia of dirt and soot that covered hundreds of astronomical figures and representations.


The experts have managed to reveal the original colors, and the restoration has brought to light almost 200 ink inscriptions that until then were completely unknown. These inscriptions have helped researchers identify many of the images represented.

The ceiling is divided into seven sections each representing a different theme, themes include for example the daily course of the sun, the phases of the moon, the different hours of the night and even New Year's Day.


Orion represents the constellation of the same name, next to him Sotis is represented, which is the ancient Egyptian name for the constellation Sirius, the star Sirius is invisible in the sky for 70 days a year until it rises again in the east at that moment the appearance From Syria it is the moment that marks the day of the new year in Ancient Egypt and it is also the moment that announced the annual flooding of the Nile, in addition the images represent the goddess Nukis who, according to tradition, was responsible for the waters of the Nile They receded about 100 days after the flood, this was the cycle of the Nile Cosmos and of life in the Ancient One.
