A comet in fragmentation.

A comet in fragmentation.

We have a comet that is disintegrating, it is comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS or c/2023 A3, it is a comet that is about 5 kilometers in diameter, initially it was thought that it could endure its passage near the sun and that it would even be visible to the naked eye, so bright as Venus, which would have been a nice sight, but the situation is becoming catastrophic for the Comet.

According to the new study with the evidence that has been collected in recent weeks, it turns out that the Comet does not seem to be able to hold on, it must be formed primarily with ice and it is melting and exploding and breaking and is in an advanced phase of fragmentation, we do not have images of how this Comet is breaking up right now, but we have an example of a comet disintegrating in August 2000.

The linear comet broke into pieces in August 2000 and did not approach the sun as planned, however, this one that is in the news now would have its closest approach to the sun on September 27 at 58 million km, which is more than minus the distance at which Mercury orbits the sun and a little more than two weeks later, on October 12, the Comet would have its closest approach to Earth, 71 million kilometers, but as I mentioned, it seems that it will not survive.

But if any remnant of this comet were to endure passage near the scorching heat of the sun, it has been calculated that the solar gravity could launch it and transform it, in this case, into a fragment of an Interstellar comet that would end up traveling between the stars for almost all eternity.
