So How Powerful Is Our Brain And Has It Evolved Because of Smart Phones?
Do you ever ask yourself why we're able to respond to text messages as fast as we do. We process so many chats so quickly. I personally use WhatsApp a lot and I've joined quite a number of groups, I'm able to engage with everyone in that group chat so quickly and simultaneously, and it's not because I'm smart, this is something everybody does. We couldn't have been able to do that if our brains were not quick enough. So how quick is our brain?
Well, New York University researchers demonstrated just how quickly our brains can process short messages and I think that explains why we can handle constant texting messaging and all the many notifications that Pop up on our phones. During the research, they found that if a simple sentence is flashed on a screen, our brains recognize its structure in just 150 milliseconds, that's basically in the blink of an eye.
Just as we get the gist of a visual scene in one single glance, this is far faster than hearing a word or reading it laboriously, one at a time.
Our brains can even notice mistakes in a sentence and correct those mistakes automatically which is why sometimes we pass small errors when reading quickly, it also explains why we are able to proofread fast.
But I have a question in mind though, is it that we have evolved into being able to do this or our ancestors had this kind of brain power too? Let me see who can answer that in the community.
