Scientists Talked To A Whale Some Months Ago
One of the most shocking things have happened recently and it involved Artificial Intelligence.
Scientists were able to have a 20 minute conversation with a humpback whale which they named Twain, I really don't know who named it that or why but it's a cool name for a whale anyways. The conversation happened off Alaska’s coast.
Dr. Brenda McCowan and her team from Whale-SETI played a whale sound through a speaker and Twain actually responded to the sound by swimming around their boat and matching the sounds for like 20 minutes. This was the first time we've communicated with a whale using its own language.
Whale-SETI is a research team that studies whale communication to help in the search for life in the ocean and beyond our Earth. One thing about Humpback whales is that they're very intelligent and they're able to use songs and bubble rings to communicate and catch their food.
The team's mission is to learn more about how these whales communicate and they want to do the research using AI. AI can help us understand signals from space. This work is really important because it could help us find extraterrestrial life by studying how whales interact with us. If we finally learn how to talk to animals, can't we learn how to effectively communicate with aliens? Yes.
This research is very good also because if we can communicate better with whales, we'll understand them better, know a lot more about what's good for them and what's not.
