I think it's tough to maintain hope when there is so much uncertainty, but I do think that it's better to keep up that hope. We don't know where technology will lead us, but things can always change so long as you keep working at it.

You're right, it's tough to be hopeful amidst uncertainties, it's like the wind blowing against the tide of your resolve. However it's better. Hope and Faith can help against depression.
