A visit to Idvor, the birthplace of scientist Mihajlo Pupin
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great today! When I recently wrote about the Banat salas I visited with my family, on that same day we also visited Idvor, the birthplace of the scientist Mihajlo Pupin.
It’s a very small village in Vojvodina, the northern province of Serbia.

When we arrived, all roads led us to the two main spots: the Mihajlo Pupin Museum and his house. We first went to the museum, and I’ll write about his house in my next post.

The museum is located in the town park, full of greenery, where you can also find Pupin’s monument.

There, you can read some of his quotes, such as: “Knowledge is the golden staircase by which we ascend to heaven.”

The town’s church is also nearby.

We were welcomed by a very kind lady who introduced us to the museum and told us about the life of this great scientist. My children were very interested to hear the story, especially my son who loves science and finds it fascinating.

At the museum, we first watched a short film about his life, and then explored the inventions that helped shape the world of science and technology.

We saw models and reconstructions of Pupin’s most important inventions, with special emphasis on Pupin coils. These coils are known for enabling long-distance telephone signal transmission.

There was a detailed explanation of how they work and why they are still important today.

We also saw a system for feeding vacuum tubes.

And his authentic manuscripts.

As well as naive style paintings.

The museum building is old and simple, but inside you can feel the spirit of his ideas. He left this building as a legacy to his hometown, Idvor.

This visit left a deep impression on us, and we couldn’t wait to go to his house and take a closer look there as well.

Thank you for reading.
Jelena

He was a great scientist, I'm glad you learned about him from me! 😊 Thanks for stopping by.
A beautiful way to connect with history and science by visiting Idvor! The museum is a perfect place to spark curiosity, especially for kids who love science like your son.

Never been to Serbia before but from everything I've seen shared on here from time to time, it looks like a country with a bit of everything!!
That's the same thing I say about Romania. 😊 So close and I've never been, but I'm planning to.

What a meaningful visit! @jelenaa Idvor may be a small village, but it's the birthplace of one of the great minds in science and innovation. Love to visit this place too, soon. ❤️
Yes, and it is interesting that even today the place is known for smart minds, mathematicians and physicists
