Bonjour, Geek Zone Community!

Is anyone here a Bilingual or a Polyglot or a Language Geek? Or currently learning another language? How did you learn another language? Did you study in a language school? Or are you using a language app to learn?

Now that I have a new phone which I featured here, I am featuring an app I downloaded to learn a new language. It's called the Duolingo App.

d07.jpg

Currently, I am on a 15th-day streak. Meaning, that I am on my two weeks learning the French language. Right now, I am not yet fluent in French even after 3 years. My son is a better speaker than me at 3 years old. He can speak English, so automatically, he is Bilingual. Awesome!

d06.jpg

I am such a competitive person that last week, I placed 1st place in the Bronze and Silver leagues. Right now, I am on third.

d05.jpg

I am using the Free app version. I tried the Super Duolingo App and it was so nice that I could make many mistakes, unlimited. With the free app version, I need to earn HEARTS to continue to the next lesson.

d04.jpg

Right now, I am in Section 2: Explorer, Unit 4.

d03.jpg

13 Units to go before I could move on to the next section.

d02.jpg

I've finished the section 1 last week.

d01.jpg

Every day, I need to learn at least 15 minutes. Sometimes, I do more than an hour.

Alright, my first usage of the Duolingo App happened in 2019. Back when I was pregnant and prepared everything for Europe. I had the Duolingo App on my iPad. I was able to learn some basics, wrote something in my notebook, and suddenly, I forgot everything.

Gender usage, masculine or feminine?

Oh my, French is such a difficult language. So many rules and different spellings for many things. The adjective, the noun, the verb, changes when it's masculine or feminine.

Who would have thought that the car is feminine?

the car in English is la voiture in French.

To be honest, I feel like I am having a brain hemorrhage. Hahaha!

Let me test my French skills while typing this

Bonjour tout le monde et mes amis! Comment ça va? Moi? Ça va tres bien. J'mappelle Roxanne. Je suis Filipino. J'habite la Philippines et la France. Mon mari est Français et il parle français. Moi? Je parle Anglais mais je ne habite pas Angleterre. J'ai deux enfants, un garçon et une fille. Mon garçon est trois (3) ans et ma fille est deux (2) ans.

Take note that I am writing in the Present Tense. I still don't know how to use the Past Tense and Future Tense. Omg, do you think I'm doing good writing in French?

Je vous souhaite beaucoup de courage. Le Français est effectivement une langue difficile.
Et ne faites pas confiance à Google Translate, il est très mauvais à ce jeu là, tentez plutôt DEEPL ...

Bonne continuation à vous.

I think Duolingo is good when you like something more solitary and aim for the basics. I get bored way too easily with that and prefer to have conversation with natives. So, sometimes I use Tandem or HelloTalk. For me, past tense in french is complicated🤣

Haha I am surrounded by French people and I don't even understand a thing. Duolingo helps me to learn the basics. It's funny because when they talk, I just drop my jaw. so awkward. hehe

It's interesting to me how different regions have different accent, at least from what I am exposed to. I learned french for two years in university and past tense was something I really struggled with. But they're also not really the most fun people around when you're learning something new, they can be a grammar and pronunciation nazi too xD

haha, and so is my husband. wrong pronunciation and grammar meant something else or they don't understand you at all.

Yo estaba aprendiendo italiano francés e inglés con duolingo pero cuando perdí la conexión a internet porque el cantv se cayó donde yo vivo perdí la racha y ahora perdí el interés pero puedo descargarlo y ver cómo han cambiado muchas cosas.

My plan is to learn Spanish next. No internet, no Duolingo, that's true.

i think this app is great to improve and to keep the mind on the laguanges, but i'm not sure if we can learn a language just with that tool. Anyway it's always good to take the lessons everyday.
