Technological Advancements - Acquire Knowledge & Pay Attention to Details

Every time there's a twist in a movie I wasn't expecting, I hat off to the scriptwriter and everyone else who contributed to the whole thing. It takes a certain level of mastery to get someone hooked on screen, thinking they know what will happen next based on their experiences, only to introduce an angle they did not see coming. I believe this is the kind of mastery that makes films worthy of academy awards especially best picture and up for preservations. Every detail had to be taken into consideration, and sometimes the actors and actresses get to win best-acting awards too. The directors are never left out, they will always win academy awards for best director and so forth.

When I saw missing last night and told my friend we would be seeing it soon, I did not realize I was going to see it alone. He had a last-minute work issue and he had to leave. I was left on my own to mourn his absence by looking for something to entertain myself with until the sorrow disappeared. I watched Missing.

The plot is centered on a young woman who had to send her husband to jail for abuse and change her identity while taking custody of their daughter, Junebug. The woman who went by the name, Grace Allen was able to conceal the fact that June's dad was still alive and had served time by telling her he was deceased. Every Father's Day, June is left to watch her friends post pictures of their dad and she did not have one. Until disaster struck.

You know when the universe wants to reveal something that's been hidden for so long, it allows the parties involved to slip a bit, and boom, everything is out in the open. I believe this was Grace's situation. She happened to slip and fell in love with Kelvin Lin. A romantic con artist employed by her Ex-husband to help him get to his daughter, Junebug. Grace Allen allowed her vulnerability to be exploited and although June did not like Kelvin, Grace thought it was mostly teenage tantrums. If it was reality, I am pretty sure she would wished she listened to those teenage tantrums, it could have saved her from missing and almost dying in the process.

To wrap this up, June was able to find her mum and discover the truth about her dad, Her mum's lawyer, Heather Damore, Kelvin Lin's real identity, and the rest of the pieces of baggage that came with the lives of the adults around her.

The purpose of this post is not to give you spoilers. It's a film that I'd recommend to anyone because I saw basic life affairs that everyone should be intentional about. What are those?

Acquiring Knowledge and Paying Attention to Details

I have a good feeling that if Junebug had no idea how to use the internet and social media spaces, she probably wouldn't have been able to uncover the hidden details about her mum's situation. Also, if she wasn't the child who paid attention to details, she wouldn't have been able to join two and two together to make it four thereby helping her with the case even when it seems, the police were delaying to come up with solutions.

Junebug not only knew how to use social media spaces, she knew how to utilize them at the right time. This movie made me realize that no matter what we might think about the internet, social media, data sharing, and buying by businesses and advertisers if we allow ourselves to be educated on how these things work, we might be able to use them to our advantage.

We don't necessarily have to always look at the bad sides and criticize them as we go. We could turn the mirror around. Change the perspective, dig out useful things and experiences from these initiatives. It's almost how we are angr about WEB2 businesses selling our data by using algorithms that monitor our day-to-day activities thereby sending ads that are targeted to our needs every day.

I watched June track her mom, and her boyfriend simply by using the locations they turned on and off. Google might have been using these things to find the right adverts for the right people, but for once, Junebug used it to solve a case and brought her mom home alive and well.

If not for the way technology has advanced as we keep aging, there are analog ways of doing things that we would still be stuck with today. If the rest of the world is moving quickly towards a new way of doing things at the speed of light, we risk being left behind if we don't get on board soon enough. Often, what happens is that it will somehow become costly to access these things when we realize we can't do without them. At that point, it might either be too late or we would pay more in terms of time, energy, and resources.

We will constantly see technological advancements as we continue to live and breathe. The best thing we can do is to never write off any form of knowledge. If it's possible to gain some at that point, jumping in will do anyone good. It might turn into a million-dollar industry we never imagined. When we change our perspective and look at every negativity in another light, we might find opportunities that were staring at us in the face all the while we were trying to reject the new visions and ideas.
