A transcriptomic screen identified Ppp1Ca, encoding PP1A, as a potassium up-regulated gene. PP1A directly binds to and dephosphorylates NCC when the extracellular potassium is elevated. We confirmed that PP1A dephosphorylates NCC directly in a potassium-regulated manner

The article shows that PP1A dephosphorylates NCC directly in a potassium-regulated manner. It has an effect similar to the one of a thiazide diuretic.
