Should Hive Have a "Learn to Code" token?
I've been discussing this idea with @memess and now I'd like to gather opinions from others on the Hive platform before investing a bunch of BEE tokens into it.
Is there sufficient interest for a Hive "Learn to Code" token?
So far I've created BYTE token on Hive-Engine through my alternate @holovision.stem account. BYTE has a maximum supply of 4294967296 (232) tokens.
The idea is to utilize this token and incentivize posts about hardware and software, particularly tutorials and self-teaching experiences. Hopefully it would encourage more people on Hive like myself to delve into software and blockchain development, whether for creating Hive applications or contributing to open-source projects.
I described this concept to @memess as "Posts about topics ranging from HiveSQL to, 'This is what I did today with the Arduino kit I got for Christmas.'"
I need to gauge whether there's enough interest to warrant enabling rewards pool and staking for the BYTE token. Are you interested in learning to code from others on Hive? Would you like to start learning and sharing what you learn? Or perhaps you have years of experience and would like to contribute by posting or commenting on content created by less experienced users working to improve their skills?
It's possible that there may not be significant interest in this token considering the existence of the STEMGeeks community. Maybe STEM would make BYTE redundant. Therefore, your feedback is crucial. If the consensus is positive I'll proceed with launching BYTE token. If not, I have an alternative idea that I could put the BEE tokens towards.
Please provide your feedback for this post. If the majority agrees that this is a promising idea I'll move forward with the token launch. Otherwise I'll explore another option. Thanks.

Hmm 🤔, let's hear what other users thinks, didn't though about the steem concurence at first but it isn't a real concurence, the tribe is really about learning software hardware and all, while stem is pretty much about everything concerning electronic and iternet

Seems interesting, I'd like to learn to code Hive (doing so is currently a nightmare), but this sounds more like a community than a token...what is the sink/use case, what purpose would the token serve? Too many tokens exist solely for the purpose of having the tokens and getting more, but ultimately what's their value? (getting happy about burning them ends up being the extent of it)

Fair point. I see several posts a day that are just posted to burn tokens so I understand that is an issue.
BYTE will be a community token. Probably eveventually it might have an Outpost site if there is enough interest. I already replied to @diggndeeper.com about this but there are some psychological reasons for tokens other than hodling. Supporting a philosophy or principle behind a token is an example.
Some people are more willing to help if there is a reward. Some people are more motivated when there is a reward. Maybe somebody has an idea for a project when starting off learning to code and BYTE along with Hive rewards could help them save to pay for what they want to do.
Since this is "learning to code" I could also just give the William Gibson cyberpunk response, "The street finds its own uses for things."😁
Wow, I've been thinking along similar lines.
However, instead of "learn to code" I would like to have a token for sharing code.
Sharing code is slightly different concept and a completely different market from learning code.
There are thousands of books and web sites that feature basic learn to code posts. It is a crowded space. Most learning code sites are highly structured they have sections that focus on a single language at a time and present code in a standard structure.
It would be hard for HIVE to compete in that space.
Sharing code is a different thing. This market is open for free form discussions.
Sharing Code Web Sites
Github is the best example of sharing code. The site often serves as the repository for working projects.
HIVE could never compete with GitHub.
One could create a social media project that supplements GitHub. Users could discuss the working code projects on GitHub. This would encourage github projects to link back to HIVE.
Sharing Code Token to Support HIVE Engine Development
Anyway, the goal of a share code project would be to help people develop code for projects. It could be used to help people develop programs that interface with HIVE and HIVE-Engine. It could be used for discussions about development issues.
STEM Is Not Sufficient For Sharing Gode
The #STEM token is sufficient for "learn to code" projects since learning code falls under the blanket of STEM education.
Sharing development code does not fall under the STEM blanket as developing code is not about learning it is about doing.
I would love to see a token for sharing code. We already have STEM for learning code; So, I wouldn't bother wasting any BEE on a learn to code project.

@diggndeeper.com
I would love to see anything that advances learning and sharing code using Hive, as I see this as a potential primary function of the incentive part of Hive as part of open source and decentralization.
I'm always confused as to the advantages of using tokens over Hive, though. I'd love to hear some conversation about that.
Well, for me one of the things that first got me thinking about this idea was my getting ready to post about how I have begun to learn blockchain development from square one. There are a lot of community tags for cryptocurrency and general interest but not for this type of thing. There's #steemgeeks, #build-it, maybe #creativecoin if it's about a simple game design or such.
Obviously the tags don't have to be for tokens but it doesn't hurt to get some HIVE and tokens. Lately I've been posting with payout set to 100% Hive stake reward. It takes a little while to unstake Hive and if I need a small amount of Hive in a hurry having some liquid tokens I can exchange helps.
There's also some psychological things about tokens. Wanting to support a philosophy behind a token and using tokens to quantify engagement.
Anyway, that's how I view it.
We're sooo stuck smh
I have 360 BEE. I would be willing to unstake and trade 80 BEE. It takes 10 days to unstake.
Perhaps I could trade the BEE for some BYTE.
There have been multiple accounts that tried to reprint user manuals on HIVE and STEEM.
The accounts did not go over very well.
I think a tribe where people shared code and talked about programming would be far more interesting than one where college professors repeated the basic stuff that is already found in text books.
I would be willing to write posts about actual programming on BYTE.

@holovision! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @ yintercept. (1/10)
The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want, plus you can win Hive Power (2x 50 HP) and Alive Power (2x 500 AP) delegations (4 weeks), and Ecency Points (4x 50 EP), in our chat every day.
Thanks for the offer. We might be able to do that. I want to gather a few more opinions before I decide to commit to launching BYTE though. Right now I feel around 70% confident I will launch BYTE soon after this post's payout. Probably two or three weeks after payout so that's more than ten days. You can wait until I post about committing to a launch and what the rewards pool settings will be before unstaking your BEE if you want.
I am planning to put a small amount of BYTE on the exchanges at launch for 0.001 HIVE each. The current swap for 0.001 HIVE is 0.0026 BEE. If the price of BEE changes between now and your unstaking we can update that ratio. Would this arrangement work for you?

Very interesting idea! Would this have a community also (I'm guessing yes)? And would this be Hive coding or coding in general? I'm thinking there, maybe, could be sub categories based on tags of the programming language.
I am also a bit confused about the tokens over Hive - but I'm growing into the idea of having a token for it, as per your comment here.
However, if the only reason for token and not just a community is getting liquid hive quickly, then I would recommend you use @reward.app for that purpose. Pays HP rewards in liquid Hive.
Anyway: I'm a big fan of the idea of the community and the token as well.
In my opinion these conditions should be met though
Great initiative!

Yes, it would have a community. If there is consistently 20 or more quality posts daily over a period of a few months then maybe having it as a tribe would be justified.
Primarily the goal is to get more users interested in learning how to code Hive applications, or at least to better understand how Hive technically works on the software level. I will be writing posts for the community account of what I am learning about programming. For example going through the https://developers.hive.io/tutorials/ tutorials, each community post would be one of the lessons being done by me with screencaps and commentary.
The rewards pool only allows a maximum of 5 tags so sub-categories for several languages with tags isn't feasible. One of the five must be the community's tag and I want #development to be another one.
I don't know if you are aware of the @blocktrades HAF project but that can be used with many different programming languages to create applications for Hive. So users learning any of those programming languages would be great.
I knew there's some sort of HAF feature, but haven't come across this one. Very interesting, will be looking into this 👌🏼
As far the community and token, I'm all for it
I am not sure what you consider an "insanely big amount". I chose the max number of tokens to be 232 (4294967296) BYTE. That's a large number but my plan is to have it set to mint over a period of 28 (256) years. So large number but over large time span.
If we're going to do it in BYTE token then we do it in binary expoents.😁
I am not against a tipping bot. That might be at least a few months in the future after BYTE launch though and not immediately.
Yes. That will be in a future post before BYTE launch.
