Les comparto mi reseña del primer libro que leí en este año 2023, titulado “Cómo dar malas noticias en medicina”, del autor Marcos Gómez Sancho, un médico español, especialista en Cuidados Paliativos, quien recopila en este recurso literario varias formas humanas y amenas para lidiar con la comunicación de una “mala noticia” en el ámbito de la salud. Este libro es de gran utilidad para cualquier persona, en especial para el personal de salud, que día a día afronta situaciones existenciales que prueban sus límites, sus valores, su sistema de creencias y su capacidad de sostener a los pacientes y sus familiares durante el diagnóstico de una enfermedad o la comunicación de un deceso.

I share with you my review of the first book I read in this year 2023, entitled "How to give bad news in medicine", by the author Marcos Gómez Sancho, a Spanish physician, specialist in Palliative Care, who compiles in this literary resource several humane and enjoyable ways to deal with the communication of "bad news" in the field of health. This book is very useful for anyone, especially for health personnel, who day by day face existential situations that test their limits, their values, their belief system and their ability to support patients and their families during the diagnosis of an illness or the communication of a death.
🤔 ¿Qué es una mala noticia? Se puede definir una mala noticia como aquella que altera de forma abrupta y negativa la perspectiva del paciente, acerca de sí mismo, acerca de la relación con su futuro o de la perspectiva de sus familiares. La comunicación verbal y no verbal, tienen un papel fundamental en como será recibida la mala noticia, pues la interpretación de esta depende, en gran medida, de la elección del lenguaje a utilizar, la elección del entorno adecuado, la empatía, la humanidad y la cercanía que utilice el profesional de salud durante el acto de comunicar.
De mi interés por aliviar el sufrimiento humano, como médico, surge mi deseo de leer este libro y mejorar cada día mis habilidades comunicativas ante situaciones límites que requieren que mis palabras sean lo más cercano a un respiro, a un abrazo que acompaña y sostiene, a un diálogo que infunda valor, respeto y comprensión, reconociendo que cada individuo tendrá diferentes formas de pensar y reaccionar a la adversidad.
🤔 What is bad news? Bad news can be defined as news that abruptly and negatively alters the patient's perspective about himself, about the relationship with his future or the perspective of his relatives. Verbal and non-verbal communication play a fundamental role in how the bad news will be received, since the interpretation of this depends, to a large extent, on the choice of language to be used, the choice of the appropriate environment, empathy, humanity and closeness used by the health professional during the act of communicating.
From my interest in alleviating human suffering, as a physician, arises my desire to read this book and improve my communication skills every day when faced with extreme situations that require my words to be as close as possible to a breath of fresh air, to an embrace that accompanies and sustains, to a dialogue that instills courage, respect and understanding, recognizing that each individual will have different ways of thinking and reacting to adversity.
🔖 Este libro está dividido en 4 capítulos, los dos primeros orientados a cómo dar bien las malas noticias, haciendo referencia a pautas legales, historia y reflexiones, el tercero aborda cómo manejar este tema con los niños y el cuarto vislumbra algunos aspectos de la familia y la sociedad en torno a la muerte y la enfermedad.
Además, durante el desarrollo del libro se pueden apreciar diversos poemas y frases reflexivas, así como también, comparaciones de artículos legales y de investigación.
🔖 This book is divided into 4 chapters, the first two oriented to how to deliver bad news well, making reference to legal guidelines, history and reflections, the third chapter deals with how to handle this topic with children and the fourth chapter glimpses some aspects of the family and society around death and illness.
In addition, throughout the book there are several poems and reflective phrases, as well as comparisons of legal and research articles.
Me gustó mucho este libro, personalmente, desconocía varios aspectos legales en torno la comunicación de las noticias a los pacientes y sus familiares, y durante este viaje literario se amplió mi perspectiva acerca de este tema. A pesar de que cada situación será distinta e individualizada, es importante considerar todos los detalles implicados en la comunicación de información pertinente al estado de salud de una persona y este material es una excelente guía. 🤍

I really enjoyed this book, personally, I was unaware of many legal aspects surrounding the communication of news to patients and their families, and during this literary journey my perspective on this topic was broadened. Although each situation will be different and individualized, it is important to consider all aspects involved in communicating information pertinent to a person's health status and this material is an excellent guide. 🤍

Lo bueno es que hay lecturas para cada ocasión, es bueno tener una guía que te ayude a atravesar estas situaciones y aprender a comunicarlo lo mejor posible. No debe ser fácil ser médico y tener que dar alguna noticia que sea desagradable para un paciente o para sus familiares. Las malas noticias en la medicina siempre están latente, muchas personas no las reciben de la mejor manera. Algunas veces por la forma como se la dicen y otras producto de la magnitud de dicha "noticia"

Buena reseña, ☺️. Y es por esto que no elegí ser médico, soy muy malo para dar malas noticias, los nervios me hacen cometer imprudencias y pendejadas. Me quedo con mi laboratorio químico, a los reactivos solo les gusta reaccionar entre ellos.
