Oh no! They ruined Upside Down in Stranger Things.
I love scifi movies and shows when they use some science that in the end can be real, but we just are not there yet. I like fantasy movies as well, even if they have absurds un-scientific basis. However, the last season of Stranger Things was too much for my brain to accept. After almost 10 years of the Tv show, it ended with the incredible saga of 5 seasons. I finished watching the last 2h long episode yesterday, and I have a feeling that it could end better. Maybe it is the course of a long series.
The first season brought the concept of the show with not many answers, and to be frank, the high point of the show was the 4th season, when we had the epic Eddy character, but still first season was better.That is because the first season gets very close to a Stephen King story, and that what brought the audience attached to the idea of the show. I even wrote a post about that at the time . The TV show lost some audience during that time; it would probably be better if they had fewer seasons. Well, let's go with something that bothered me a lot in this season: "The wormhole theory".
It will be a type of spoiler in here, but I don't think that it will bring so many things that will prevent you from watching the show. Dustin, the nerd science guy, discovers some documents in Hawkin's lab at the "Upside Down" world version. In reality, this mirrored world is a wormhole connecting our world to another world(which I won't talk too much about to avoid more spoilers). So the problem for me is that a wormhole can't be a whole world as the directors created, it can't have a space with matter. For me, a wormhole could be the portals that they open to connect the "Upside Down" and our reality. Similar to what Dr Strange does in the Marvel Comics/Movies. Wormholes are just portals connecting two different places.
The directors decided to adapt the graphical representation of a wormhole, which usually is manifested as a tunnel, and in this tunnel, there were buildings, stone, soil, and clouds. For me, that was the dumbest representation of a wormhole in the whole tv/movie story. Additionally, this tunnel was constructed by the pulsating vines from that strange world. Come on, the idea of being just another dimension was better than this.
Ok that was my rant about the expalanation about the "Upside Down" world. But the last season brought more things that I didn't like, such as the ending, closer to an action movie than to a sci-fi/horror movie. But one thing I can't deny, Jamie Campbell Bower's acting was one of the bests lately that I watched, his role as Vecna/Henry is great and I just learned that Vecna's voice is actually his inspired in Pinhead character from the horror "Hellraiser". Isso contém um certo spoiler, mas não acho que vá impedir você de assistir à série. Dustin, o nerd da ciência, descobre alguns documentos no laboratório de Hawkins na versão do Mundo Invertido. Na realidade, esse mundo espelhado é um buraco de minhoca que conecta nosso mundo a outro mundo (sobre o qual não falarei muito para evitar spoilers). O problema para mim é que um buraco de minhoca não pode ser um mundo inteiro como os diretores criaram; não pode ter um espaço com matéria. Para mim, um buraco de minhoca poderia ser os portais que eles abrem para conectar o "Mundo Invertido" à nossa realidade. Similar ao que o Doutor Estranho faz nos quadrinhos/filmes da Marvel. Buracos de minhoca são apenas portais que conectam dois lugares diferentes.
Os diretores decidiram adaptar a representação gráfica de um buraco de minhoca, que geralmente se manifesta como um túnel, e nesse túnel havia prédios, pedra, terra e nuvens. Para mim, essa foi a representação mais estúpida de um buraco de minhoca em toda a história da série/filme. Além disso, esse túnel foi construído pelas vinhas pulsantes daquele mundo estranho. Vamos lá, a ideia de ser apenas outra dimensão era melhor do que isso.
Ok, esse foi meu desabafo sobre a explicação do Mundo Invertido. Mas a última temporada trouxe mais coisas de que eu não gostei, como o final, mais parecido com um filme de ação do que com um filme de ficção científica/terror. Mas uma coisa eu não posso negar: a atuação de Jamie Campbell Bower foi uma das melhores que vi ultimamente. Seu papel como Vecna/Henry é ótimo, e acabei de descobrir que a voz de Vecna é inspirada no personagem Pinhead do filme de terror "Hellraiser". Confira o vídeo abaixo.

I agree, it's absurd. Wormholes connect to points in spacetime, they don't create a whole world. It was pretty stupid... But what do you expect from writers with no background in science? Bower's acting is phenomenal, not easy to do and basing the voice on Pinhead is pretty cool.
The problem with being intelligent as a viewer of films is that we immediately see the absurdity that some writers dream up their heads...
