A CRT for Christmas!? Retro Gaming Time!

Most people would ask for something different for Christmas, but as I went to Imbituba this year to spend some time with my aunts, uncles and cousins, I couldn't help but notice that my aunt had an old CRT lying about.

I asked her if it worked and how much she wanted for it, she said she it was in perfect condition and she was willing to give it away! I was over the damn moon. I've been looking for a decent big CRT for quite a while and this was the perfect found.

After some complaints from dad about how big it was, we managed to fit it in the boot of the car and went home a couple days later.

I then bought this very cheap HDMI to AV/RCA converter which arrived two days later for just $4.

The quality doesn't look too great on Retroarch's high resolution menu, even if I put the resolution down to 640x480, but the games? Even though this is composite only and not RGB, it's really impressive!

Here's some PS1 and Grandia 1 running, I spent a lot of time last night playing this and damn, it's fun. Not to mention it just feels so cozy to play on a CRT.
Maybe the youngins (as if I weren't one of them) wouldn't get it, but back when I was a kid, all we had were CRTs, VHSs, a SNES and a PS1. So this just feels special to me.

I can't wait to have my retro-game loving friend over so we can play some multiplayer games on this huge ass tube TV.

Here's some Dead or Alive 2 running on Flycast (Dreamcast), it works really well. I'm surprised with how well this laptop can handle Dreamcast and Gamecube - PS2 is probably a pipedream but I'll try it later anyways.

I'm just really happy with the results coming out of this, my Switch has barely seen any usage since the adapter arrived lol
I've been pretty much just checking my Animal Crossing island... But talking about that, this makes me wanna play Animal Crossing on the Gamecube!

Maybe I'll give that a try.

And if anyone is wondering...

This is how the desktop looks like under Linux Mint.

It's decent, some corners are cut (doesn't happen in games) but it's good enough to at least navigate through the file system and find old anime to watch in 4:3 hehehe.

Thanks for reading!

What memories. My aunt also has one in her room, and years ago when I came home from school, I always watched anime on it because I liked that it was big haha. In my case, I think she still has it and continues to use it to watch her soaps. In the photos, can see how well preserved it is for its age, it looks almost new.
