Me complace compartir con ustedes este unboxing que había estado postergando y que finalmente se cristalizó. Desde hace tiempo, había deseado reemplazar mi eReader por uno más novedoso, avanzado y de mejor tecnología. La verdad, fui postergando la compra porque no terminaba de justificar el gasto, ello considerando que no estaba leyendo con la frecuencia que debería.

Mi viejo Amazon Kindle 4th Gen era suficiente, aunque me limitaba leer de noche debido a la falta de pantalla retroiluminada y me fastidiaba un poco usar botones en lugar de una pantalla táctil. En fin, se estaba quedando atrás.

Ahora, motivada y obligada por igual a retomar la lectura con más seriedad y constancia, en las últimas semanas estuve evaluando varias opciones de eReaders. Consideré el Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, el Amazon Kindle Oasis, el Kobo Libra 2 y el Pocketbook Era. I’m pleased to share with you this unboxing that I had been putting off and that finally materialized. For a long time, I had wanted to replace my eReader with a more modern, advanced, and better technology one. Honestly, I kept delaying the purchase because I couldn’t justify the expense, considering I wasn’t reading as often as I should.

My old Amazon Kindle 4th Gen was sufficient, although it limited my ability to read at night due to the lack of a backlit screen, and using buttons instead of a touchscreen was a bit annoying. In short, it was falling behind.

Now, both motivated and obliged to get back to reading more seriously and consistently, I’ve been evaluating several eReader options over the past few weeks. I considered the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, the Amazon Kindle Oasis, the Kobo Libra 2, and the Pocketbook Era. I must say, my selection was based on comparing features that prioritize reading and, of course, the price, rather than personal usage experience.

Por suerte, me resistí a la compra online y esperé a ir a la tienda para probarlos. Tenerlos en mis manos, explorarlos y experimentar su uso fue el factor decisivo. Pude comprobar la comodidad, la interfaz, el peso y el tamaño de cada uno.

Entre todos, el Kobo Libra 2 se perfiló como mi favorito. Muy cómodo de agarrar y manipular, súper ligero, de tamaño ideal para leer y transportar. Además, cuenta con tecnología E-Ink, pantalla táctil, bluetooth, WIFI, iluminación ComfortLight Pro, 32 GB de almacenamiento y tecnología IPX8, por si acaso se moja. Sin embargo, el verdadero punto diferenciador lo tuvo su “hermano mayor” a quien Rakuten bautizó con el nombre de Kobo Libra Colour, que incorpora la tecnología E-Ink Kaleido 3 para una experiencia de lectura a color.

¡Se lo que estás pensando! ¡Espera! Si piensas que incorporar color contraviene el concepto original de los eReaders, no temas. No es un color brillante ni de alto contraste, sino más bien opaco y en tonos pasteles, ideal para leer cómics. Además, este modelo permite tomar notas con lápices electrónicos, fungiendo como una especie de cuaderno digital básico. Por cierto, agradezco que el bloc de notas no sea el foco principal, ya que mi elección la prioricé en la lectura, aunque la idea de dejar notas o marcar directamente sobre el texto me gusta.

Algo que me pareció genial es que el dispositivo puede sincronizarse con Google Drive y Dropbox, tanto para la lectura como para la edición. Esto es muy útil, al igual que poder consultar el significado de alguna palabra en línea mientras lees. Eso está muy cool.

Kobo Libra Colour

Fortunately, I resisted the urge to buy online and waited to go to the store to try them out. Having them in my hands, exploring them, and experiencing their use was the decisive factor. I could check the comfort, interface, weight, and size of each one.

Among all, the Kobo Libra 2 stood out as my favorite. Very comfortable to hold and handle, super light, the ideal size for reading and carrying around. Additionally, it features E-Ink technology, a touchscreen, Bluetooth, WIFI, ComfortLight Pro illumination, 32 GB of storage, and IPX8 technology in case it gets wet. However, the real differentiator was its “big brother,” which Rakuten named the Kobo Libra Colour, incorporating E-Ink Kaleido 3 technology for a color reading experience.

I know what you’re thinking! Wait! If you think incorporating color contradicts the original concept of eReaders, don’t worry. It’s not bright or high-contrast color, but rather muted and pastel tones, ideal for reading comics. Additionally, this model allows you to take notes with electronic pens, functioning as a basic digital notebook. By the way, I appreciate that the notepad isn’t the main focus since I prioritized reading in my choice, although I do like the idea of leaving notes or marking directly on the text.

Something I found great is that the device can sync with Google Drive and Dropbox, both for reading and editing. This is very useful, as is being able to look up the meaning of any word online while you read. That’s really cool.

En cuanto al unboxing, el Kobo Libra Colour viene en una caja preciosa, perfecta para un regalo. En este caso, fue un regalo de mí para mí. Dentro, el eReader, que viene con un cable de carga y datos tipo USB-C y su respectivo manual de usuario. Es importante aclarar que no incluye el Kobo Stylus 2, el cual se vende por separado a 75€, además de los 229€ que cuesta el dispositivo. Pero (spoiler), admite otros stylus pen e igualmente funciona de maravilla.

Mi experiencia pocas horas después de tener en manos a mi nuevo compañero de lectura, paseos y viajes, es maravillosa. Sus 32 GB de almacenamiento están listos para recibir más de 20,000 libros de diferentes formatos y cientos de audiolibros. Aunque prefiero leer en lugar de escuchar, nunca está de más tener un plan B.

Entiendo que nada supera la experiencia de leer libros físicos, lo sé, es algo sublime. No obstante, los eReaders son una alternativa maravillosa para cultivar el hábito de lectura.

As for the unboxing, the Kobo Libra Colour comes in a beautiful box, perfect for a gift. In this case, it was a gift from me to myself. Inside, the eReader comes with a USB-C charging and data cable and its user manual. It’s important to note that it doesn’t include the Kobo Stylus 2, which is sold separately for 75€, in addition to the 229€ the device costs. I understand that nothing surpasses the experience of reading physical books, I know, it’s something sublime. Nevertheless, eReaders are a wonderful alternative for cultivating the reading habit.
