I Cried, I Rested, I started Over - My CyberSecurity Reset

This is my first post here though I have been on Hive for a while. I jumped into cybersecurity without a roadmap. After learning the basics, I realized there was a lot I needed to know and learn.

Cybersecurity is definetly not what I did envisioned. I went to it because of the monetary aspect, I felt it would be handed to me in a platter of Gold after learning the basic but that wasn't the case.

Although I later fell in love with the idea that surrounds it.

CyberSecurity is a profession where you have to keep learning if you want to stay relevant.

You have to be Jack of all trade and be conversant with the different sides of CyberSecurity like GRC mastery, Offensive Cybersecurity, defensive Cybersecurity, Cloud security while doing hands on practice with Tryhackme, Let's defend and Hack the box.

All of this information coming to me at once made me a bit overwhelmed, I had to take a break from it.

Nevertheless, I knew giving up wasn't an option.

After proper research, rest, a few tears and picking myself up, I decided to start over.

I enrolled for Google CyberSecurity Certifications on coursera. I already had those basics before now, but I felt it wasn't enough.

Though the 6 months felt like lost time, I kept reminding myself I had rather do it properly than rush through it hollow. I have to be grounded as an entry-level Security analyst.

On this new Journey I will document my progress here, and I hope to consistent even though consistency is the farthest thing from my nature.

In Course 1 Fundamentals of CyberSecurity I got introduced into the following headings;
🔐 The CIA Triad - which means, confidentiality, Integrity, Availability.

🛡️ CISSP's 8 security domains

📋 Security frameworks & controls (NIST CSF, RMF)

🖥️ Core analyst tools — SIEM, network protocol analyzers, logs

⚖️ Security ethics and how past attacks shaped the field

🛠️Protect with tools and programming languages

In my next posts I will break down each of these topics in details, sharing what I learned and what it means in the practice.

If you are on a similar journey of learning, restarting, or just figuring it out, I would love to connect.

If you have gone ahead I would also love to get a mentor related advice.
