The Quiet Habit That Saved Me

For some time in my life, I have always done some things like a robot, quick in doing things, working over and over. In my country, for most people, that one is very normal because we always feel that pressure, that rush, that reaction, and those expectations, and sometimes if I see someone doing something, it will also prompt me to also do that thing, and it seems like I was not resting. But as time went on, something changed in me, and I developed the habit of always resting and taking a pause.

Yeah, for someone like me, it was that simple to take that lane, but I had no choice but to start giving myself pause. There was this time that a lot of things were upon me: fear of not letting people down, fear of meeting up, and inward fear. Even I am afraid of water up till now. And to be sincere, these things have served as something that I have been running away from.

But you know what changed everything for me? One fateful afternoon after a stressful day, I decided to step outside the compound for a walk just to feel the normal atmosphere. It was quiet, and just a few people passed by. I decided to take a deep breath. Likewise, I did that for like three times, and I felt so much alive again. And since that very moment, I have cultivated the habit of not pressing my phone immediately after I wake up or say a word to anyone.

But in the few minutes that I wake up, I check on myself and usually do some self reflection to plan and refocus. During that moment, I often do my personal devotion do some mini exercises before I proceed with the next thing. And gradually, these things began to shape my days positively.

I have decided to stop responding to everything like I often did before, and that has saved me from a lot of trouble. I focus more on myself, with fewer distractions, and my priorities are straight. Likewise, I have decided to be selective in the things I say, and I have also decided to let go of some things.

And to be sincere, I have learned that I can control a lot of things if only I take a pause and not force things. And this thing is now my daily routine.

Smiles, this is so true. We don't even know we've turned into a robot, since it's already a part of us and we feel it's normal.

It's good to see you now have a good routine, one that really allows you to pause and breathe.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful piece.
