In recent times, so much apathy has been shown towards social problems and inadequacies. People don't seem to care about the happenings in the society as long as it doesn't affect them, this selfish way of living has caused unimaginable degradation in the world today. In this article, I will discuss at length the importance of being aware of social problems and getting actively involved in finding solutions.

Being aware of social problems is a crucial step towards creating positive change. When we're aware of issues like inequality, injustice, or environmental degradation and it's effect on society, we would then be motivated to seeking solutions. Being aware of these problems is the first step towards creating positive change.

When we're awake to these issues, we can begin to understand the complexities and nuances of these problems. Awareness helps us identify the underlying factors contributing to social problems. For instance, poverty might be linked to lack of access to education, job opportunities, or systemic inequality.

Injustice might be caused by lawlessness and corrupt judicial system. By understanding these root causes, we can develop targeted solutions that address the problem at its core. It also allows us to connect with communities affected by social problems.

Empathy is crucial in building bridges between different groups and fostering a sense of solidarity. When we understand the experiences and struggles of others, we're more likely to take action and support initiatives that benefit them.

By exploring different perspectives and approaches, we can identify potential solutions that might not have been apparent otherwise. This might involve supporting organizations working on the issue, advocating for policy changes, or developing new technologies that address specific challenges.

Having talked about awareness to social problems, I will point out a few of these problems, how it has affected us and possible measures that can be adapted to ensure change.
POVERTY: It is no longer news that poverty has been a long lasting social issue in the world at large and specifically Nigeria. This can be linked to systemic inequality.

Structural barriers and biases that perpetuate disparities in access to resources, opportunities and services. Unemployment can also be identified as a major cause of poverty as many skilled youths have underpaying or no jobs at all. Philanthropic acts can be sponsored by influential and wealthy individuals, more industries should be built to tackle unemployment and gradually eliminate poverty.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT: This has been a prevalent issue in the society that has affected both genders. Victims of sexual harassment end up depressed and emotionally scarred, in most cases it is difficult for them to recover from the trauma. Government should implement laws with severe punishment for those guilty of sexual harassment, this would drastically mitigate it's consistency.

Social movements is also a tool that can be used to tackle this issue of sexual harassment, support groups and therapy sessions should be carried out for victims as well.
NEGLIGENCE OF GIRL CHILD EDUCATION: This issue was prevalent in the most parts of the world.

But thanks to mass enlightenment, it has been slowly eradicated. Although it is still obtainable in some parts of Africa and other continents. In times past, it was believed that educating a girl child is a waste of resources as she would end up in a man's kitchen.

This stereotype continued for decades and hence, illiteracy reigned supreme among the female gender. Over time, some activist took matters into their own hands and started movements to create awareness on the importance of girl child education.

One of those activists was Malala Yousafzai. She continued to advocate for girls education and became a global symbol of resilience and courage. Malala's advocacy has helped to raise awareness about the importance of girls education, and has inspired millions of people around the world to take action.

These are just a highlight of social issues in the society today. In conclusion, we cannot continue to be blind sighted and selfish, we must take actions to ensure a safer society for all of us, one where unity love is the order of the day. Intentionally creating awareness and providing solutions to these issues is a job not for the government alone, but every single citizen. The change begins with you.
