Artificial Intelligence Rambles

Blockchain and AI are similar in at least one way: they are both buzz words. Sure, we can find other similarities, too:

  • they are both from the technology sector
  • they are both disruptive for existing models
  • and, in my opinion, they are both part of Web3 (together with cryptocurrency, as an inseparable notion from blockchain in a relatively decentralized protocol)

It's interesting that if you search for the definition of AI, you'll find almost as many definitions as results on the main page.

From "a field, which combines computer science and robust datasets, to enable problem-solving" (source) to "an area of computer science that involves building smart machines that are able to perform tasks which usually require human intelligence" (source) or "AI is a machine’s ability to perform the cognitive functions we associate with human minds, such as perceiving, reasoning, learning, interacting with an environment, problem solving, and even exercising creativity" (source), that's the kind of definitions we find.

We have some constants here:

  1. computers or machines
  2. their abilities
  3. human intelligence

Basically, computers or machines with abilities matching or exceeding human intelligence in certain aspects.

And yes, we are oversimplifying it because the AIs abilities can involve a whole (both software and hardware) or just the software part.

But I wouldn't be quick to categorize every device or platform with a smart algorithm as AI. Would that make smart contracts in crypto AIs? Of course not. How about a very useful Excel sheet that spares you of a ton of work? Is that AI? No way! How about a bot for Splinterlands? Nope. How about a spellchecker? Hmm, that depends. This one can be a pretty simple AI if it also makes suggestions about rephrasing (particularly if it does that), corrects grammar and punctuation, besides correcting spelling errors.

Personally, I don't understand the fascination to create humanoid AIs. Maybe this push is to make them more acceptable in the society? What if the effect is the opposite, and people hate them? Of course, we know how easily narrative can be driven to where it is "supposed to go", so I wouldn't worry about that. Or maybe I should.

Anyway, looks aside, we tend to model AIs after ourselves, including how our brain works. That is probably a limiting factor for the AI industry, rather than something to make it soar. In a way, it's understandable. In order to analyze progress with your AI model, you need to be able to understand it and, later on, to control it. How could you do it, if you don't understand how it thinks?

Did you have in school any teacher you thought has nothing (useful) to teach you? I'm sure most of us had at least one case where we believed that, regardless if our assessment was correct or not at the time.

Imagine in some undetermined future some AI will think the same about its teachers - humans.

How did you react regarding the respective teacher? Started to not listen and find your own activities while he or she talked? Rebel? We haven't had a real baby AI yet, can you imagine keeping a teenage AI in check? Ha! I talked about limiting AIs by modeling and comparing them to us, and here I am doing the same...

Will artificial intelligence still be sustained for years to come

AI is pretty much at the beginning of the road at a mass scale, even though it's been researched for a long time. Yes, we'll see a lot more of it.

My concern is just about the Artificial intelligence. Well, it is very helpful but let us hope that it does not snatch all our jobs because it is already doing the things that human can do...

I think it will take a lot of jobs. And it will be a tough transition time for those losing them. I don't know if it's any comfort to them, but new types of jobs will be created. They always have been when old ones have been disrupted. But I don't imagine the transition period as smooth.

Ai would be a test for the Human to be a human. Why I say that because, if not happen so,things would be at stake, many jobs to shed and there would be chaos in the artificial sector, which might take a turn for worse.

But, blockchain would develop more surely and we should wait to see what that comes in the future.

I don't think it will be chaos. People will resist AI, for multiple reasons, more than they did previous industrial/technological revolutions, but eventually, the majority will embrace them. At least the practical ones.

Some important decisions, rules, and compromises are needed, because we will likely be in the position of creating a non-biological species at some point. Something that may threaten our existence as humans, and certainly capable of exceeding our intelligence in probably all areas by then.

Hello @gardrian. AI is taking away more job from humans and that would make AI more hated by humans. Thanks for the AI rambles. What do you think about AI taking away jobs from humans? Thanks. Barb 😊 👍 !BBH !CTP #ctp

I don't like it because it will generate bad situations with people losing jobs, maybe entire families. That will lead to bad times for them and to social pressure.

But I believe in the grander scheme of things new jobs will pop up. The transition will be tricky though, especially for those losing jobs.

So, it will be worse before it will be better, at least for some people (and not a few).

Yes I agree. I am very worried but will try not to. I'll have to ride the big wave or we will have to ride big wave - maybe a roller coaster. Yes, so true that is will get worse before it gets better. It ain't so great now either. I'm hanging in there for the ride. !BBH !CTP 😀👍🌟🙏🌟🙏🌟

The rate at which AIs are put in use these days is frightened. One hopes that humans can favourably compete with them and still maintain an upper hand. Let AIs not take all our works.

I think we approach this from the wrong perspective. Yes, it will take lots of the existing jobs. Every major industrial/technological revolution did that. Somehow, other jobs kept being created to fill the void every time. We may not even imagine what kind of jobs we'll have on the market 20-30 years from now.

I correlate AI together with that of robots. In a way, I think the technology will still take quite a while before it can really take place of people's jobs. The accuracy just isn't there but it could work out quite well right now as a helping tool. It just reminds me of how NFTs were on a crazy during the crypto bull market but now, it's all hype on AI.

I agree! AI is hyped up now, but it also made some significant progress. Quite far from a general AI, but developments are moving very quickly in that area. Accuracy is there for very specialized AI (for the best of them anyway), not there for something like ChatGPT which can do many things, but you can't trust its output.

Hope someday I'll see one that operates at least 70% like humans. Never seen the real one before except video, the humanoid AIs 🤔.

Yep, neither did I. But we'll see them more often.

Why do I want to think that an AI teenager would be a bit less moody and easier with which to deal than a human teenager? Probably because I lived with both of my stepdaughters when they were teenagers. And my sisters and I were no picnic as teenagers either.

Ha ha ha! I get what you mean. But frankly, I'd still prefer the human teenager to an AI one that will be capable to outsmart us too. But this isn't something we'll see for years anyways...

Hence the Terminator movies! LOL Or way before that 2001 Space Odyssey and HAL

Yeah, humans' imagination rightfully went wild in movies when it comes to super AIs and their capabilities.

Yeah, I have seen a few of the Terminator movies but not 2001 Space Odyssey.
I mostly enjoyed them.
