Dangerous lifesaver
Don't be surprised to see your popular Codfish or European Heke fish looking like that, the kind of cooking skills applied to it here is numerous, but we just take a look at the style of smoking it and how it's dangerous to us while saving our lives. 😆
The local name given to this fish from my side is called "PANLA YIYAN", Panla (Heke fish) Yiyan(smoked)
The fish naturally contains healthy nutrients and compounds that enrich our body and help with so many benefits, but the process of smoking can create some byproducts which go along into the body with the other compounds and those byproducts (like nitrates converted into N-nitroso compounds in d body) can cause stomach cancer. Yes, it is capable of causing cancer with further study.
But this fish is majorly accepted and consumed daily even with the dangerous side effect.

Ego boosting & Popular and Affordable
There is a funny but serious notion that eating a meal without something on top of that food is not proper, things like fish, meat, egg, chicken, etc. This norm is so believed among us that it hurts our ego and makes u feel less of a person. However, this our smoked friend here helps boost your punctured ego because it is affordable and even if it's just shredded into big pieces in your stew, at least you feel a topping of fish on your food. 😁

Among middle-class families, this smoked fish is a good deal when trying to save money and help your ego at the same time. To all foreign friends here don't imagine this taste like your smoked fish oh, please try to get your hand on one of the ones from here and you will know there is a secret recipe for smoking fish here in my part of Nigeria.
So a round of applause for our dear dangerous lifesaver.
