POBphotocontest: TECHNOLOGY

This is a hard one @Friendlymoose! Nowadays we're surrounded by technology so it was really hard to pick one thing. Should I go for computers, mobile phone, flatscreen TV, or the latest Tesla car? I couldn't make up my mind.
Seeing that not many reacted on the contest, I guess more people are struggling like me to pick an item. But today I finally made my decision: I will tell you about 3D printing.

I got my first printer 3 years ago, an Ender 3 Pro. Soon I was hooked up on printing a lot of things. Most of them were decoration items. But a month later the pandemic started and I switched to printing supplies for the healthworkers. In those days I lived in the Philippines and no protection was available.
We did that with some people for a couple of months and could make a lot of face shields and masks.
I left the Philippines and sold my printers over there. Back home I could use the one from my hubby. He's the one who talked me into 3D printing. When I moved to Spain I took his printer with me and now I have the Ender 5.

How does it work? You put a spool of filament on the printer. You can print different materials, but most used is PLA. It looks like plastic, but it's made of organic materials such as corn starch or sugar cane. Of course there is a large selection of colors to choose from.

The 3D printer heats the filament so it's kind of liquid. It get pushed through a nozzle and layer by layer your object gets printed. You can download ready to print design from internet (www.thingiverse.com) or you can design your own in a CAD program.

I can continue with examples, but I won't overwhelm you. For those who are new to 3D printing I hope I could make it clear with some examples.
