We constantly see all the advances that have been made in the fields of technology, it is increasingly common to hear of how AIs are improving, how they create devices that solve life and most recently, how there is an intense race to create humanoid robots to be of great help to humanity (in the style of I Robot). So it is also common to find conspiracy theories that we are heading to a Terminator or Matrix world, where machines end up controlling humanity and exterminating it.

And of course I know that it can fill anyone with fear to see how the advances are becoming more real, to the point that we can see how tesla robots are being improved and become very similar to human beings in terms of mobility. Or see that the countries are taking very seriously to regulate the AI as a great danger to humanity. But my friend reader that you are here, I have 3 good reasons to believe that this will never happen, because for technology to end up destroying humanity as in Terminator, machines or technology would have to achieve 3 things: Self-sustainability, Self-creation and autonomy.

Constantemente vemos todos los avances que se han hecho en los campos de la tecnología, cada vez es más común escuchar de como las IAs están mejorando, como crean dispositivos que solucionan la vida y más recientemente, como hay una intensa carrera por crear robots humanoides que sean de gran ayuda para la humanidad (al estilo de I Robot). Así que también es habitual encontrar teorías conspiranoicas de que nos dirigimos a un mundo Terminator o Matrix, donde las máquinas acaban controlando a la humanidad y exterminándola.

Y por supuesto se que puede llenar de miedo a cualquiera ver como los avances son cada vez más reales, hasta el punto de ver como los robots tesla se van perfeccionando y llegando a ser muy parecidos al ser humano en cuanto a movilidad. O ver que los países se están tomando muy en serio regular la IA como un gran peligro para la humanidad. Pero amigo lector que estas aquí, tengo 3 buenas razones para creer que esto nunca sucederá, porque para que la tecnología termine destruyendo a la humanidad como en Terminator, las máquinas o la tecnología tendrían que lograr 3 cosas: Autosuficiencia, Autocreación y Autonomía.

And if we think about those internet videos where you see that a machine talks and says things, the truth is that everything is being programmed by someone, because by itself, the machine can not be turned on and run without anyone starting it, even the machines do not have that ability and it may take years for something like that to become a reality. So it is impossible to think that any AI will take control of nuclear missiles, since it cannot do anything on its own. And in the event that this moment comes and the machines or the technology has its own autonomy, then another problem arises, and that is that the machines cannot be self-sustaining.

Empecemos por la primera, Autonomía: Si pensamos en las personas, cada una de las más de 8 mil millones de personas que hay en el planeta, tienen total autonomía sobre sus acciones y decisiones, pero si pensamos en las máquinas aún no existe tal cosa, pues siempre se requerirá de alguien que programe o actualice el software para la mejora de la máquina. Y si pensamos en esos videos de internet donde se ve que una máquina habla y dice cosas, lo cierto es que todo está siendo programado por alguien, ya que por sí misma, la máquina no puede encenderse y funcionar sin que nadie la ponga en marcha, ni siquiera las máquinas tienen esa capacidad y pueden pasar años para que algo así se haga realidad. Así que es imposible pensar que alguna IA tome el control de los misiles nucleares, ya que no puede hacer nada por sí misma. Y en el caso de que llegue ese momento y las máquinas o la tecnología tengan autonomía propia, entonces surge otro problema, y es que las máquinas no pueden ser autosuficientes.

Self-sustaining: Machines or technology, like human beings, need to recharge forces, we do it with rest or with food and water. In the case of technology they would do it with electrical components, metals or electricity. And by themselves they cannot do any recharge of energy or materials. As I said in the concept of autonomy, they will always need someone who is constantly helping them, just as you connect your cell phone when you reach 10% of the battery, the machines also use energy and need to recharge, but alone they can not do it.

Autosuficiencia: Las máquinas o la tecnología, al igual que los seres humanos, necesitan recargar fuerzas, nosotros lo hacemos con descanso o con comida y agua. En el caso de la tecnología lo harían con componentes eléctricos, metales o electricidad. Y por si solas no pueden hacer ninguna recarga de energía o materiales. Como dije en el concepto de autonomía, siempre necesitarán de alguien que les esté ayudando constantemente, igual que conectas tu móvil cuando llegas al 10% de la batería, las máquinas también consumen energía y necesitan recargarse, pero solas no pueden hacerlo.

But in the case of machines or technology, they still do not have their own perception that motivates them to create technology with a final purpose, but it is human beings who use technology to create more technology. In addition, the programs and software developments that these machines need are created by humans who constantly update them, so if there is any error, it can be quickly controlled.

Y como la tecnología no puede ser autosuficiente, esto nos lleva al tercer problema, y es que la tecnología no puede autocrearse, es decir que de forma totalmente autónoma la tecnología no puede crear más tecnología. Pero en el caso de las máquinas o la tecnología, aún no tienen una percepción propia que las motive a crear tecnología con un fin último, sino que son los seres humanos los que utilizan la tecnología para crear más tecnología. Además, los programas y desarrollos de software que necesitan estas máquinas son creados por humanos que los actualizan constantemente, por lo que si hay algún error, se puede controlar rápidamente.
