Scientific curiousity: Need for a cautious innovation

It's no gainsaying that the field of science is a vast one and has highly contributed to humanity in several ways. Science has indeed contributed to having a better world to live in and it has solved many human problems. Some of the scientific breakthroughs though not limited to this includes the discovery & formulation of drugs for health & healing in health sciences, the development of hybrids in agricultural sciences, invention of sophisticated gadgets through the applied sciences (technological) as found useful in other fields of human endeavors such as banking (ATM, Computers) etc.

No human system or invention is perfect as there are always room for improvement. In addition, there are extremities in life, hence the need for balance so as not to overshoot boundaries. One of the scientific invention that i think is not necessary because of the danger it posses is that of BBL i.e. Brazilian Butt Lift. This is a procedure enhances buttocks shape and size through the injection of fat from other part of the body to this part. A similar proceedure is that if breast enlargement with some involving the use of some inflammable gaseous substance. I believe that this procedure as seen in health science as it relates to cosmetics and beauty should be discouraged.

In August 2024, a British mum of age 38 dies after BBL proceedure in Turkey. Source Also in the same month last year, a lady died in Lagos during this surgery. Source These are just few of many of such deaths talkless of the complications from such proceedure and high cost of maintenance of such all in the name of beautification. This procedure involves experts to carry it out in the field of health sciences and hence, the need to exercise caution.

I believed that any innovation should be value adding and be a great supply to humanity and not subjection to risk or loss. Therefore, the curiosity for innovation should be balanced by a sense of ethical and moral values. The efforts, resources used for this procedure i believed should be channelled to a better need of we humans for a common good rather than that for selective few. To me, the risk of undergoing BBL is more than its benefits both in the short and long run. If this proceedure is not made available, who then will desire to go for such? Therefore, there is need to understand that not every human desire should have scientific inputs especially for a very minor selected few but for the common good of all.

In all, science is good and it has added positively to humanity in many endeavors, however, there is need to not allow curiosity overshadow cautious innovation with benefits surpassing the risk and for the common good of all.
