I’ve Got A Golden Ticket!
So there I was a few nights ago, it was our third evening in a local hotel. We were worn out from dealing with contractors, living out of suitcases, and generally having our lives turned upside down from extensive home renovations. But this was all of our own doing so we didn’t have anyone to blame but ourselves.
I settled in to watch a little TV around eight o’clock and decided to check my email before we pressed play to watch an episode of Black Rabbit on Netflix (which is excellent, btw). It was then that I saw it towards the very top of my inbox.

I opened the email but still didn’t quite believe my eyes. I’ve learned these tickets are extremely hard to get but by some stroke of luck I managed to get a pair.

As you can see from the message, the message says to RSVP. Now, the thing was there were no instructions on exactly how or where to RSVP. The email came from “[email protected]” so I knew I couldn’t just respond with “Count me in!”. Tesla wasn’t going to make it that easy.
I scrubbed the internet for about a half an hour but could find nothing about it. As a last ditch effort I decided just to tap the image itself—sure enough that image was a hyperlink to the Tesla 2025 Shareholder Meeting RSVP page. Leave it to Tesla to throw a puzzle at us to see if we were worthy. In retrospect, that part added a fun element to it all. It felt like a real quest.

So, I agreed to all the fine print, entered my brother’s name and email address as my “+1” and hit “enter”! A few minutes later I got the response above which included the disclaimer, “This is a limited capacity event, but we will send a confirmation email once we've confirmed attendance numbers.” The question that was then rattling around my head was, Does this mean I’m guaranteed tickets or not?
After a conversation with YouTuber, Bearded Tesla Guy, who's been to the event several times, it seems that if you get that first email you’re all but guaranteed to receive two tickets if you RSVP. He said that typically you don’t get the final confirmation until the day before the event. Odd, but okay. So, if this is true, I’ll get final confirmation and credentials as I’m hurdling through the air towards Austin on November 5th.

At that point I felt like Charlie from Willy Wonka! I got a golden ticket! I then felt confident enough to lock in hotel and airline reservations—and I’m glad I did. I booked a double room at the Hyatt Hotel at the Austin airport and there were only a handful of rooms left. The hotel is about four miles from Tesla’s GigaTexas Factory, where the meeting will take place.
My brother and I made this pact about a month ago that we’d both request tickets and whoever won would invite the other as their “+1”. My brother has far more shares of Tesla than I do so I assumed he’d get the invite but that wasn’t the case. I could tell Tesla employees were checking out my online presence over the past few weeks because I got the notification from LinkedIn so the only thing I can figure is they saw some of the favorable things I’ve written about the company and my Tesla Model 3 in the past few years.
To say I’m excited is an understatement. This meeting will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. It will likely be the last Annual Shareholder’s Meeting before the Optimus robot hits the market and makes Tesla the most valuable company on the planet. This year’s meeting is rumored to have a large demonstration of the Optimus, rides in the yet to be released Tesla Roadster (0-60MPH in under a second), and face time with upper management. Since the RoboTaxi network is up and running in Austin I should have a chance to try that for the first time as well.
November 5th through the 8th should be a few epic days for the record book for this nerd (me). I’m going to bring a few copies of my Sci-Fi novel Alarm Clock Dawn. If I get to meet Elon you’d better believe I’m going to shoot my shot and try to get a copy of the novel into his hands. The story is in alignment with his mission after all. Hopefully this doesn’t get me escorted out by security.
In exactly eighteen days I’ll be boarding a very early Delta flight to Austin, blurry-eyed but caffeinated, feeling like the luckiest guy in the world.
I'll do my best to chronicle the experience as best I can for Hive.
Tesla used to be my dream car, but Elon leadership style and his political actions in the last year or two soured me on the brand. But I am excited for you and hope that you have fun at the shareholder meeting.
I also hope that you get Elon to actually read your book, that would be quite something! Good luck!
Yes, a lot of people feel that way now. I'm equally as disenfranchised by the Democrats so, for me, I think it allows me to see beyond the politics. Thank you! It should be a lot of fun to experience some of those unreleased products. I think it'll be a bit like stepping into the future. I know getting that book into his hands is a long shot. Even if I get to meet him the "vibe" would have to feel right for me to offer it to him. I don't want to be "that guy" or be escorted out by security. Lol.
Hello dear friend @ericvancewalton, good afternoon.
I'm so sorry for what you're going through living with the existing construction in your home. I hope you soon regain your peace of mind and well-being.
It's great to know that your positive comments about your Tesla Model X made it so fortunate.
You and your brother are two lucky people. It will undoubtedly be a great event.
Enjoy it.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks Luis but the construction stuff is no big deal, just an inconvenience. We're about 3/4ths done at this point so it should be ending soon.
We are lucky to have a chance to experience this! Again, thank you and I hope you enjoy your weekend!
Nice to see how excited you are, even with all the craziness of the renovations. I hope you and your brother have an amazing time at the Tesla event ;)
Thank you!
Wow, that's awesome. Good luck with it! It feels like a bit of a leap of faith, but it sounds like you have a good community to support you and walk you through it!
I appreciate it! I've heard from enough people who've been to the meeting in the past that I was confident to make the arrangements. The community really is awesome. From what I've heard, this last step is just to vet the +1's because they have to be shareholders as well to qualify. Fingers will be crossed that it all works out!
This is so freaking cool! I hope you get to meet Elon, 'cause I'm sure he'll love your novel. Great idea, taking some copies along. I'm sure you'll have a blast, Eric! Congrats :)
Thanks my friend! Honestly, I don't think I've been this psyched for something since the first SteemFest. Getting the book in his hands has way higher odds than getting chosen to attend but I couldn't not try. I think all of us writers have a little of that attitude inside us. : ) Sometimes you just have to take a chance. It would have to feel right in the moment though.
Congrats. It's cool that your online presence is viewed favorably. I look forward to your post about the event.
Thanks, if it wasn't totally random (luck) my best guess is those who're choosing did some quick internet searches. Thankfully LinkedIn informs you who looks at your profile, and their job titles. As soon as I saw that a few weeks ago I got a good feeling. : )
That is super exciting Eric, congratulations! Great that your brother is going with!
You must also be looking forward to the renovations; lots of #goodvibesonly!
Thank you! Yesterday was my brother's birthday too so, in a way, this will be a belated birthday gift for him. He's traveling to Dallas for work the week before the meeting so it'll be a hectic couple of weeks for him. Yes, the house is finally taking shape so we're happy about that. The contractor who did the wood floors destroyed our baseboards so we have the project manager coming out next week to discuss what they're willing to do for that. There's been hiccups at every stage of this project but nothing that can't be worked through. I hope you're well my friend!
That's lovely, Eric. Well-timed surprise gift!
Not so much about the renovations, but it so often happens when one undertakes work on the house. All will be well in the end, but it can be frustrating!
I am keeping well, a few hiccups to be expected
at my agebut nothing that can't be fixed!

What a wonder!! I am also very excited because I know what this meeting means to you. I remember that months ago you talked about this meeting as a wish, now it is almost a reality. The universe is listening to you, Eric! So ask big. Congratulations and hugs
Thank you Nancy! I'm still in disbelief! I have to admit, it's a little nerve-wrecking not to be getting the actual ticket until the day before the event. I'll probably be in the air on the way to Texas or already there when it lands in my inbox. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
That's super cool!
Although I'm not sure its a good idea to meet your heros.
I missed meeting Elon in the early days of The Mars Society. I joined at the very beginning a couple of years before he got invoved.
By that time I'd got busy with other things and didn't meet him at a Mars Society event.
I'm really looking forward to it. The timing couldn't be better because this will be the final annual shareholder meeting before ground-breaking products are launching (CyberCab/Optimus). These two products will take the company to an entirely new level. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet him at the Mars Society event. I'm not sure if I'll have a chance or not at this meeting.
