My First Hive Ghana Experience, Hive Ghana Free Screening Program

On the first of May 2023, I had my first hive experience in a town called Bedomase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana when Hive Ghana had its first major Hive screening exercise for the community. Before then I had seen Hive on campus during one of their programs so I had some idea about it but not much.

On the said day though, I was invited by the hive medical team to join them on an expedition to this town where we were to provide free health screening exercises which included checking their systemic pressure, their sugar or glucose levels as well as seeing to their eye's health and providing free medication.

When I got to know what the program entails I thought this was probably not true or an exaggeration because to provide free drugs and care for a whole community in that sense must be expensive. All that but the time came and my colleagues were conveyed to the location and true to what I was informed everything was made available for us to serve the community.

The medical team was also well taken care of, from the breakfast we were served to the lunch to stipends, we had everything that made our work easy and comfortable and this enabled us to give our absolute best to the inhabitants of the village. We took care of a good number of patients which if my memory serves me right included the King of the town.

It was truly fascinating for me and since then I have wanted to learn more about this Hive thing and how I could help others, especially in the health field as they are doing for these locals. Then I learned this was not even the first and that the project has been providing other communities with potable water by building boreholes and helping school children with books and other educational stuff.

So from then, I made it a point to join Hive but I was getting ready to finish school and write my final exams so I couldn't do that, I had too much on my hands and I was certain that I might have been distracted if I tried hive and so I waited and now that I am done and doing my residency I believe it is time for me to come and learn.

And so I am here to learn and be guided and to know more, to find opportunities, and to help others. I am excited about this journey I am embarking on Hive and I want to say thank you for the massive support and the amazing reception.
