The emergence of technology took most people by surprise especially the uneducated. Before this parent era of technology it has always been a game of numbers in the labour market. We humans had so much pride in the fact that our skill set will definitely be the reason people in need of it we seek us out but things changed, I bet they never saw it coming. Imagine being a camera man in a broadcast industry, depending on the kind of shots that will be taken either outdoor or indoor broadcasting this will determine the numbers of camera men that will be on set. Knowing that numbers are needed in order for the show to be successfully especially outdoor recording like television documentaries. An average camera man will definitely feel proud as usual, this will give him an upper hand while bargaining for the prize of his service.

The pressure to reduce the cost of his service is never a constant one but then suddenly we now have devices such as drones which is capable of reducing human labour by 65%. The integration of drone usage in broadcasting is also a product of robotics technology in their aim to create effective tools to ease the struggle of camera coverage. Now rewind for a sec to being in the shoes of that same camera man whose source of pride is the confidence he has in the contribution of human Labour necessary to get the job done. Being aware of the new technology in broadcasting called drone, at the back of his mind he already knows he lost his bargaining power. Instead of being able to negotiate, now he has to beg to have a spot on the show knowing fully well the capabilities of a drone usage which is capable of taking all kind of shots from different angles except enclosed CS {Close shot}.

This is not just applicable to the broadcast industry, in manufacturing industries who solely survive on human resources now have the option of going for an alternative that is capable of reducing human labour with the advantage of having less to pay workers of such company. But then apart from reducing the amount a company spend on paying workers for the service rendered, looking at the usage of robots in manufacturing firm you would realise Arguably they are more effective than humans. I mean humans are prone to error, occasionally we find it difficult to do as we are told despite being paid for the service we render, we always feel the need to rest which is normal because we are not machines, we have a limited working hours, I mean how many humans can work day and night for weeks without resting and lastly we are prone to factory accidents or sickness.

Evaluating the short comings of humans in manufacturing industry, a company with the right amount of resources would not mind substituting human labour for robotics services. Anyone with an experience of how things are done in manufacturing industries would agree that it is the logical thing to do but what about the implications it has on humans when a robot is capable of doing the task meant for at least 5-10 humans, then what happens to those who were once occupying that space. As productive as the integration of robotics technology is in different sector of the society, it is still one of the major contributor to the decline in the need of human labour resulting to massive rate of unemployment.

THE USAGE OF AI IN THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR

Based on the amazing benefits offered by AI one would think it should be integrated in every area of our society but I believe it should be so, Education is a product of civilisation which involves the process of learning and impacting knowledge through an institutional structure. It has been one of the most practiced norms among the populace of the world due to its capacity in creating enlightened citizens. The standard of education in each country depends on the rate of investment the governing body of the state has invested in academic endeavours to ensure development. As much has its benefit the citizens to have standard education, the academic sector has also been a source of revenue for the government and private organisations.

Despite the significance of education it is quite disheartening when I think of how the standard of education is deprecating. Most Nigerian schools are known across the globe for their ability to impact knowledge but it is also known that most Nigerian schools lack resources to offer students standard education. Though this issue if lack of resources and tools is still persisting but in some areas in Nigeria as a result of the advancement brought by technology, student now have the opportunity to source for materials online outside the school premises which has even got easier due to the emergence of AI.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF USAGE OF AI IN THE EDUCATIONAL SECTOR

During the olding days when students are asked to undergo a research project, it wasn't easy due to unavailability of resources but the data gathered and explanations were a product of students intelligence, which means there was originality in every content written by a student.

Nowadays the case is different, when I was in school we are all aware of the usage of AI in carrying out research work, especially using it to create speculative data from assumption of what it should be. Not trying to look down on Nigeria educational system but truth be told majority of our lecturers are yet to catch up on the usage of AI in generating research project content, they have little or no knowledge of how to run AI check on project materials submitted by students. Probably they would have found out if they took the time to go through the research project material but only a little fraction of lecturers does that, as long as the material is full with reference {either fake or original} and or the steps are listed, the research project is good to go.

I remember the day of my project defence, I was trying to explain my sample size technique which determines how I arrived at the numbers of respondents I will be distributing questionnaire to, explaining the statistical results of using krejcie and morgan formula, my project defence coordinator was just looking at me like a mirror. My project defence went well but I can't help but feel disappointed for preparing too much for it, this has made a lot of students more confident about using AI to generate research project materials especially conceptual analysis and empirical review.

Which means student no longer feel the need to carry out there own research to gather real fact and data, this has further degraded the value of originality while writing content in schools, it is now a thing of copy and paste from the internet. No one is willing to put in extra work because the availability of content offered by AI as now made student solely dependent it. I'm not saying availability of such material is bad but what is the point of going through school if your final year project that is meant to depicts a student intelligence is generated by using AI.

So many companies are now reducing their number of staffs because technology can do all for them. It’s good but workers are at risk cos how do they feed?

Well, it is an avenue for most companies to cut cost and increase their rate of productivity.

School is a place that takes a long time to adapt. The student has immediate needs. The two don't seem to align at this point. The use of AI is here, and it is here to stay. Students will use it, and teachers will reject it. How are we going to equalize this scale? I don't know!

Well, it is not as if usage of AI is entirely bad when it comes academics and research, it is just that students needs to consider it as a source of information or material not a means for copying and pasting a research data that is just speculation of AI.

Exactly! Or in the worst case: they shouldn't use it exclusively to mask work that hasn't been done, research that hasn't been carried out. In the end, everyone loses due to this misuse!

I completely agree with your concerns about the over-reliance on AI in education. It's essential to strike a balance between utilizing technology and fostering critical thinking and originality among students. Your personal experience with project defense is a great example of this issue.

Exactly, Information and data extracted from AI should only be considered as a study material not original creative written content by a student.

When a company lays off an employee. Then you have to understand that a time will come and you too will fall into that situation. Unless you refrain from using the ai argument from now on. Nowadays, many people will become unemployed due to technology. Many people will not be in a position to eat rice like them. It is going to be a very dire situation ahead.

Karma? Well to an extent it doesn't really matter if a company that sacked a worker due to the use of AI will meet a similar fate in the future Because the damage has already been done.

AI has its disadvantage and advantages on us. Most people have lost their pride of living through it, it's true but one thing I always say is, this machines can't work on their own, they need human to work, so it's better to embrace it, learn it and get your pride of living back. You have nothing to loose if you learn how AI works.

Well it is not as if AI can fully replace humans, the issue is it has reduced the need for human resources which might result to higher number unemployment in the future

my project defence coordinator was just looking at me like a mirror.

That's the most unfortunate thing in country like ours. The ones who are supposed to be mentors are incompetent people. They don't know the worth of originality and have no guts to appreciate the knowledge and intelligence.

In such a situation why students will choose to go a hard way when they are getting the similar results using the easier way.

Exactly, while some set of students are trying hard to do things the right way despite being aware of the shortcuts but still get the same grades as those who prefer to cut corners.

I appreciate your thoughtful response and support, thanks for stopping by 🤗

I hope that the lecturers will make an extra effort to check for AI projects generated by students but I don't think they will bother to do such, which is very sad.

What is the point of writing a project if one is going to ask AI applications to write such a project without learning anything in the process.

I do hope that school management will look into such practice.

Some lecturers can but they just chose not to since they consider it as an extra work to go through every details of a research work.

standard of education is gradually deprecating.. imagine how lazy our students have become. I remember the huge effort I made gathering data in a local village for my project. I received lots of questions back and front on the defence day and proudly, I defended it nicely because it was my original effort.. nowadays , it's all about Ai
Really..I am scared of how it will be in the next 10 years

It is quite obvious that in 10 years to come student will be more dependent on AI in carrying out their research project but I just hope that the same way student make use of AI to perform such academic task, lecturers also come up with Anti-AI software to assist them in figuring it out
