Why Do You Love Music?

I love music a lot and i listen to it at every opportunity. I remember my final year exams, I had to listen to music all through the period I was reading and it looked like there was something else making the reading easy because I was able to recollect what I read with ease when I needed to regurgitate it.

When I am in the bathroom, the kitchen, or doing the laundry, I am just so glued to music and it looks like it is a part of my life but then, there was a day I traveled to a village in Ondo State, Nigeria and I was cut off from light, Network, and access to internet. I don't have musics downloaded on my phone except from Spotify where I play my music from but this time there was no way to access this so it was the longest boring journey of my life. I was completely withdrawn and I couldn't wait for the journey to be over and go back to my home. On arrival, I played music all through the day and it was a big relief for me.

First, the journey showed that I didn't need music to live but my head would nod when music is played even without prior intentions but the question is "Do we need music to survive"?

We humans are emotional beings and we are driving my emotions and this emotion run through a lot of things including trading, relationship, education, success and even failure. Music is one of the fuel for emotions in humans. For instance, a scene can be seen interpreted based on the music being played in the background. If you play an Hip Hop music on charity video, there is a high chance that it wouldn't get the necessary funding as expected because it wouldn't touch the emotional aspect it needs to touch. Music drive emotions and it has the distinctive ability to drive and fuel emotion.

Every music has its syntax which is a set of rules that has to do with sounds following other sounds and when this sound is interrupted, or changed, it can be irritating which is why you would hear people say the vibe was killed when a particular music was changed or stopped. This is because with music, there is an expectation or anticipation of future events because it is a source of pleasure.

When this happens, we get a dopamine rush (the feel good hormone), but when this doesn't happen, it keeps us down and this is because our brain loves patterns, predictability, and met expectations. Just like your brain does with patterns such as sleep wake patterns, predictability which is possible with fight or flight where you would possibly run because people are running or seek cover because everyone around is seeking cover, and expectation such as the law of gravity which I expect to work when I drop something. The brain works like this with music because it ticks the three and when any of this is interrupted, it becomes irritating.
