Hace unos días, tuve la suerte de comprar una laptop por solo $60. Era una VIT y, aunque el vendedor pedía $80, logré negociar el precio porque presentaba una línea azul en la pantalla. El equipo estaba en buen estado, pero esa falla visual hacía que no pudiera pedir tanto por ella. Solo tenía $60 en efectivo y, como siempre ando reparando computadoras y tengo repuestos, le propuse al vendedor que me la vendiera sin memoria RAM ni disco duro. ¡Y aceptó!
A few days ago, I was lucky enough to buy a laptop for only $60. It was a VIT, and although the seller was asking $80, I managed to negotiate the price because it had a blue line on the screen. The computer was in good condition, but that visual flaw meant I couldn't ask that much for it. I only had $60 in cash and, as I am always repairing computers and I have spare parts, I proposed to the seller to sell it to me without RAM and hard disk. And he accepted!
Ya en mi taller, desarmé la laptop para hacerle una buena revisión. Le coloqué una memoria RAM y un disco duro que tenía por ahí guardados, pero mientras la desarmaba, me di cuenta de que el flex de la pantalla estaba suelto. Este pequeño detalle parecía ser la causa de la línea azul en la pantalla. Lo ajusté con cuidado y terminé de armar todo el equipo.
Once in my workshop, I disassembled the laptop to give it a good overhaul. I put a RAM and a hard disk that I had stored somewhere, but while I was taking it apart, I realized that the flex of the screen was loose. This small detail seemed to be the cause of the blue line on the screen. I carefully adjusted it and finished putting the whole thing back together.

Al final, terminé con una laptop en excelentes condiciones, y lo mejor de todo es que ahora tengo un equipo con un procesador Intel i3 de cuarta generación, 8 GB de RAM y un disco duro de 320 GB. ¡Nada mal para una inversión de solo $60! Ahora, esta laptop fácilmente podría venderse por unos $160 en el mercado. Todo gracias a un poco de ingenio, paciencia y algunos repuestos que tenía a mano.
In the end, I ended up with a laptop in excellent condition, and best of all, I now have a computer with a 4th generation Intel i3 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 320 GB hard drive. Not bad for an investment of only $60! Now, this laptop could easily sell for about $160 on the market—all thanks to a little ingenuity, patience, and some spare parts I had on hand.
No hay nada como darle una segunda vida a la tecnología y, si sabes cómo hacerlo, las oportunidades de conseguir buenos equipos por poco dinero siempre están ahí. ¡Esta laptop se quedó conmigo, y ahora tengo un equipo potente y funcional por una fracción de su valor!
There's nothing like giving technology a second life, and if you know how to do it, the opportunities to get good equipment for cheap are always there. This laptop stayed with me, and now I have a powerful, functional piece of equipment for a fraction of its value!
