Passengers Generating Energy at Train Stations
Paris has been able to generate energy by installing turbine-style entrances for a short period of time in a train station where people walk through and effectively help to generate renewable energy with their movement.
Thanks to help from the company Iberdrola they've previously installed mini turbines that can be used in the station that help to generate the energy at the Miromesnil Metro Station. As the passengers made their way through and turned the entrance turbine it converted that movement into green energy, since it has proven to work to some extent who knows where we might see this sort of project prop up next.
Tens of thousands of passengers were able to use the turnstiles and on average they helped to generate about 0.2 watts of energy which has some thinking that there could be great potential to bring this sort of design to other train stations around the world.
Renewable capacity is expected to grow in the years ahead and are expected to make up a great portion of the overall power capacity around the world in the years to come. Projects like this make it easy for people to get involved even when they might not know it, helping to generate more green energy in their own communities with projects like this and other innovative efforts that have also been ongoing looking for solutions in this area.
