AI Coins

In the Before

Back in the days of Steem the website that shall not be named, the silver gold stackers community released three silver rounds. The idea was the brainchild of @sevinwilson, and the process began with a design competition. Multiple steemians would submit their own original artwork that they believed captured the community spirit of our blockchain. After multiple rounds of heated voting, the winning design each year was minted into a 1 oz .999 silver round.

Here are the rounds from 2017-2019.

In 2019 I also submitted a design.

IMG_9907.jpeg

My design was OK, but I didn’t have the talent or computer know how to make it look like an actual coin. At the start this put my design at a disadvantage since it was harder to imagine the final product. Fortunately for me, @edexserverus “pimped” my design, and thanks to his help I achieved a second place finish.

But what if there was AI?

I recently received an advertising email from the company Bold Precious Metals. The email featured a new coin from the country of Chad. The coin design was created with Artificial Intelligence!

IMG_9954.jpeg

” The 2023 Silver 1 oz Chad AI Artificial Intelligence BU Coin is not just a numismatic masterpiece; it is a tangible representation of the transformative power of AI. As AI continues to shape our world, this coin serves as a testament to the profound impact it has on every aspect of human existence.” Source: Photo and Quote

Let’s Do This!

I have a Midjourney account. If you are not aware, Midjourney in a generative “art” tool. When it first gained popularity, you could enter prompts via a discord sever and the discord would create an image based on your words.

Here are a couple of images I “created” by entering prompts:

IMG_9910.jpeg

IMG_9909.jpeg

But Midjourney has a funky new feature known as “describe”. When you enter the /describe command you are prompted to upload a photo. Then midjourney spits out four descriptions of said photo. You can then use those descriptions to make new images!

Time to A.I. some silver rounds!

Utilizing the describe command, I uploaded my silver round design. Midjourney then provided these CRAZY prompts about my image.

IMG_9930.jpeg

I then used these “prompts” to “imagine” new images! Here are the results!

IMG_9916.jpeg

IMG_9917.jpeg

IMG_9918.jpeg

IMG_9919.jpeg

From here you can select your favorite images to upscale for increased detail. More results coming up.

Imagine minting or own coins/rounds with this kind of detail!

Next I decided to upload the winning steem round images.

Inspired by @bearone’s design.

Inspired by @welshstackers design.

IMG_9949.jpeg

IMG_9950.jpeg

Inspired by @edexserverus’s design.

IMG_9942.jpeg

IMG_9943.jpeg

Ha! Ha! Ha! They are all soooo weird! And I LOVE them!

Anyway, Midjourney is a bit of a fun time suck. Right now the images are quite random and don’t require any skill from the person responsible for their creation. I think as people gain more control over the output of the tool… it will help folks with great imaginations materialize images despite lacking the technical capability.

Then one day we can all make rounds that look like this!

Most images in this post are screenshots of “artwork” created by the Midjourney artificial intelligence bot. The coin from Chad photo was created from images in advertising material from the company Bold Precious Metals. Steem round photos originally appeared in Steemit posts promoting the Steem Silver Round.

I still think your design should have won. But maybe now the Pheonix is even more relevant since we've risen from the ashes here on HIVE....?

Totally agree..... I loved @dfinney s design. When designing my one, the concept of a 5 set series was st the back of my mind.

Bearone - center piece; steem specific
Welshstacker - communi-tree; earth
@edxserverus - water?? At a push

That leaves "wind" and " fire" - **enter stage left - phoenix perfect for the community, and ticks fire box.

Lets get it done.

Why Ai loves to add extra finns in whales and dolphins? Never got a good and realistic whale well designed!!

Yeah, this was the first time I had imagined any whales or dolphins and they most certainly came out interesting! 😄

Wow, what AI can do!!! It blows my mind to imagine minting our rounds close to the details of the rendering!!

I wonder if more mints will start using AI over artists. 🤔

Pretty amazing dfin… wow! But it does make me feel like an old geezer.

My kid alerted me to the reality that I am “older than pong” just last month 😜

Maybe? I feel like Hive needs more users, the value needs to go up, and the price of silver needs to drop about $8! 😄

Drop $8 😳 Lol
That would make pouring a lot cheaper!😇

For all of my frustration with AI, it definitely has useful elements. 😄

The AI is like Raymond lots of brain power but also lots of retardation 🤣 I asked one how much pure silver is in a coin it pulled up the right weight(23.33g) and the right purity%(80%) but somehow fucked up the simple math and gave me an answer of 18.61g as the answer its actually 18.664g not a big deal in this case but imagine a nuclear power plant or other critical infrastructure equation getting fucked up somehow yikes

Now if making coins and affording the coins could be as easy as AI designing a coin. 😄
