A more intentional digital lifestyle
So far this year, last month was the one I had the least screen time (Apple agrees, lol). It’s ironic that it also somehow happens to be the one where I used my devices most effectively. I wish I could say that happened because I woke up and felt the need to get my digital lifestyle in order, but you know it’s not. Why that has been, I think, is a lot of variables changed for me last month, and I tend to get into a fix-your-shit overkill when these things happen. It’s made me a slightly more organized and mindful person, that’s for sure, because I don’t just use my phone less, but I use it intentionally too.
One of the things I mentioned has become a part of my morning routine recently in my last post is podcasting. I’ve started slacking a bit with it, but I caught myself and I’m getting back to it. I just finished Mark Manson’s Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck Podcast, and I’m looking for something different to listen to. Not everything on the Podcast though: I’ve been hand-picking the ones I feel are relevant for me right now. I agree with most of his opinions on things, but every once a while, I find that there’s a disparity in our opinions on certain things. But that has been the beauty of listening to the Podcasts – not just listening, but being openminded to ideas and opinions I might not necessarily initially agree with. I think this has helped me be both more introspective and empathetic recently.
I tried to start some other podcasts after burning through Mark’s Podcasts, but I don’t know, something about the “monologous” nature of the other Podcasts always send me leaving. Mark’s Podcasts are usually more spontaneous conversations simulating actual conversations. The fact that he invites other people onto the Podcasts and has actual conversations with them allows you get more of the feel of a conversation, which I feel is what is one of the things I enjoy about Podcasts – the different opinions expressed. Aside the profanity. Lmfao
My Notes app usually helps me write down and untangle my thoughts. It still does, the problem is just that these days, what is supposed to be more organized than my mind has become just as cluttered if not more. This is honestly something I should put on my to-do list today, because my productivity overall increases when I have well-organized Notes.
My Calendar…. Oh man, my Calendar doesn’t do shit! I’ve tried to use it to stay more organized, but I keep forgetting to check the damn thing itself! So, I basically have defaulted back to the sticky note culture. I think why I can’t seem to stick to just the Calendar is because the Sticky Notes-to-calendar transition has just been too sharp of a change. So I’m starting slow now, balancing using them (Sticky Notes) with my Calendar app, by putting non-urgent tasks on the Calendar, setting Reminders for them for when they’re 3 days to do dates, then transferring onto Sticky Notes which are in my face all the time. Lol, talk about transition towards a more digital lifestyle.
For social media options, Twitter and Reddit have been my go-to for entertainment and just staying in the loop of the things I’m interested in. They don’t cause any phenomenal increase in value in my life, but the things I learn and come across on them have a compounding growth effect in the long-term.
And uhhh, yeah, this has been my digital lifestyle lately. I’m open to any Podcast recommendations on Self-help and productivity, so hit me if you got any:)

Yayyy!!! See who is hereeeeee!!!!
Have you tried turning your calendar into a huge widget on your phone? To make it the first thing you see when you touch the screen and unlock it?
I agree with the podcast thing too, I’ve found myself buried in podcasts recently and I love it. There are times I disagree with what the person was saying but the nice part about it is that, it led me to do my own research and mostly I find out they are right. Meaning I’m safe to an extent because I’m listening to people who know what they are talking about.
No. I honestly am not sure I understand what you’re saying. Could you explain a bit more?
Yeah, Podcasts are great. I just woke up and am about to listen to my daily dose as I prepare for work. Jay recommended Jay Shetty to me, so I downloaded one of his recent episodes last night to listen to this morning.
I see The Subtle Art of not...podcast a lot, but I couldn't connect with it. Perhaps you may also enjoy the ones I shared with you. They mostly have at least two people having a convo, which is much more engaging than not.
Never tried sticky notes. I am very good at "ignoring" things even if they're in plain sight, so I stick with calendar and to-do apps. It's way more effective for me, especially when I am intentional. But if you're willing to try, a great digital alternative to sticky notes is Notion. You even have a "second brain" there.
Yeah, it’s understandable. I’m positive the extreme profanity had a hand in that.
Yo really? I’m surprised.
Yeah, I downloaded Notion a while back when I heard you talking about it. Didn’t really interact with it much though, so it’s just been sitting on my phone taking up space. I’ll take today to explore it when I’m free and see what I can do with it. Thanks, man.
