Rescue Solder - Extending the Lifespan of My Headset [ENG/SPA]
I've had this Sades gaming headset for several years now, and I use it on my PS5. Sades is one of those many Chinese brands that make PC and console accessories, offering good quality at a low price. They aren’t high-end, but they're pretty good.

Ya hace varios años que tengo estos audífonos gaming, que utilizo en la PS5 de la marca Sades. Es una de las tantas marcas chinas que fabrican equipos y accesorios para computadoras y consolas, que ofrecen precios bajos por buenas calidad, no son top gama, pero son buenos.
I really liked this specific model when I bought it because it doesn't have RGB lighting. Since I already have a pair of Onikumas with RGB, I wanted something that didn't require a USB connection just to power the lights. The reason is that you can't use the USB connection with the PS5 controller, which only has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Este modelo en específico me gustó en el momento que lo compré, porque no tiene luces RGB. Cómo ya tengo unos Onikuma con RGB, quería otro que no tuvieran la conexión USB necesaria para poder encender las luces. La razón, es porque no se puede usar en con el mando de PS5, ya que solo tienen la entrada para Jack de 3.5 mm.
Over the years and with constant use, the in-line volume control and the mic mute switch started acting up. I had to put pressure on the volume wheel to get any sound, so I decided to crack it open and see if I could fix it.
Con los años y el uso constante, el control de volumen que viene en el cable, junto a el interruptor para silenciar el micrófono, comenzó a fallar. Debía hacer presión a la rueda del potenciómetro para que se pudiera escuchar, así que decidí abrirlo para poder repararlo.
At first glance, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I couldn't do a more thorough check because my multimeter was among the things stolen when my house was broken into. Still, I figured the solder joints on the potentiometer might be cracked, which makes total sense after years of use.
Tras una inspección visual no note nada inusual, tampoco puedo hacer una revisión más a fondo, debido a que el robo que sufrí en casa, entre las cosas que se llevaron se encontraba mi multímetro. Pese a esto se me ocurrió que las soldaduras del potenciómetro podrías estar fracturadas, lo cual suena lógico tras tantos años de uso.
So I fired up the soldering iron and reflowed each of the contacts on the potentiometer. You can't really see a cold solder joint with the naked eye, so all I could do was make this little adjustment and test it out. To my surprise, it improved a lot! I still have to press it a bit, but now just a light touch does the trick, whereas before I had to wrap it in tape to keep pressure on it.
Así que calenté el cautín y aplique calor a casa uno de los contactos del potenciómetro. A simple vista no se puede ver si hay una soldadura fría, solo me quedo hacer este pequeño ajuste y probar. Para mí sorpresa mejor muchísimo, aún debo hacer presión, pero ahora con un pequeño toque comienza a sonar, antes le dejaba una cinta plástica haciendo presión.
This tells me that the volume wheel itself has a lot of internal wear and tear, which can only really be fixed by replacing it. But it's been so long since I've been to an electronics parts shop that I'm not even sure I can find one. For now, it works well enough. In the meantime, I'll use the picture to track down a replacement and keep this headset going for a long time.
Esto me indica que el potenciómetro como tal tiene mucho desgaste en su interior, eso solo se resuelve reemplazandolo, pero tengo tanto tiempo que no visito tiendas de repuesto electrónicos, que no se si se consiga. Por ahora funciona bien así, mientras tanto con la foto lo busco para reemplarmo y extender por mucho tiempo más la vida útil de estos audífonos.
