LG Monitor Rescue - How to Combine Parts and Save Hardware
I made the decision to get rid of several things I've had stored away for years, some to give away and others to sell. Among these things, I have various components from old PCs, including two 19-inch LG Flatron widescreen LCD monitors (16:9 aspect ratio) with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, also known as HD.

These monitors are perfect for security camera surveillance systems, PC cash registers in stores, etc. So I get ready to check them out, and it turns out that one turns on but quickly loses the image, and the other has a stained screen, as if it got damp—which surprises me because when I put them away, both were working perfectly.

I was right on the verge of throwing them both out, but it occurred to me that I could take the circuit board from the monitor with the stained screen and put it into the one that turns on but loses its picture, and that way only lose one.

Opening them up to get to the circuit board is not easy at all. There aren't any screws; the front bezel is removed by releasing a series of clips around it. With the help of a thin flathead screwdriver and a putty knife, I popped them open one by one, little by little. This task took me the most time, since I had to do it carefully so I wouldn't break the front bezel.

Once the bezel is unclipped, you can take out the screen and the circuit board. To my surprise, there are no screws connecting these two parts either, just some adhesive tape for the wiring and boards. The first step was to remove two cables that come out of the side of the circuit board and go into the screen; I assume these are for the backlighting. These types of cables are removed by pulling them while gently wiggling them sideways, so you don't compromise the connector on the circuit board.

The next step is to remove the ribbon cable by pulling it from both sides at the same time. Then, separate the small control button board on the front panel, and you can finally separate the circuit board from the screen. I swapped the good board into the good screen and put everything back together.

After assembling everything, all that was left was to test it. Since I don't have a computer, I asked someone close to me for help and tested it. Everything worked great, giving a clear picture and making it ready to be used. So, instead of throwing away two monitors, I managed to save one.
