Who will curb media trafficking?

We've probably heard much about trafficking, especially related to humans. Have you ever been exploited? How did you feel? Probably depressive as you feel they have made a fool of you. One of my niece brought such an assignment this week for me to help her out and I probably made some research about human trafficking and it causal agents. One that stood out for me was the limited access to information.

The misuse of users' data is not a new thing. It has been the complaints that have been piling the web. How safe are social media and the Internet at large. Is it worth our attention and what exactly has been the bold step taken to end or if not at least curb this unethical practices.
You don't need to mention names, yet the facts stand, one way or the other, our data has been mismanaged. In a world where we have come to realize data is a hot cake, ALL are zooming in to make sure theirs converts.

With sites collecting your personal information, online search queries and interest, social mediainteractions, connections, browsing history and your native online behavior, you should not be surprised why what interest you always suddenly pops up. The threatening part is always whose hands this information has been transferred to? Adding to that, they've also made gains in the process. Some mitigating suggestion has been to read and understand privacy policies yet this to me is just a scratch to call solution. Who would tell you he wants to exploit you.

Data brokers are sieving the web2 industry, it is a million dollar industry if not actually in billions and trillions. As illicit companies continue to collect data from several sources to later channel to other organizations through illegal licensing can we say a move to curb is a waste of time. Maybe all you care about is just staying on platforms to say hello, I care more, let's be realistic here, technology is hunting down data to enrich and few shouldn't sneak away with others data and fatten their centralized pockets.

Marketing and advertising companies needs data, governments need data, the health sector needs data, research institutions and even unethical activers like fraudsters and scammers also need data. So in the midst of data misuse, is there a need for privacy and security? Truth to be added, many users feel they've really been exploited which is usually a trafficking characteristics. This data is used for profits without them benefiting or being compensated.

This has been the gap web3 has been trying to fill since its inception yet few understand this. One of web3 key difference is transparency of data and users consent. Maybe we are yet to understand the main application of decentralized data storage. I can remember the 'not your keys not your wallet slogan' in crypto and same applies with handing over your bio to centralized platforms. I mean, our credit cards details and the many likes are constantly being exposed to unforseen threats. Scammers need confidential information and the best place to filter it through has remained smugglers of web2.

User centric design

This is the future of modern online presence, have control of all you have and where you are. Information sharing exception of consent must be incentified. As we have always said no to human trafficking, I guess there is nothing wrong in saying same to data trafficking. We spent almost half of our day online this days, I wrote an article about a global virtual individual house which security and privacy must be fully checkmated.

A lot is happening world wide and to stay tuned, you can't help but to pass through platforms which serve as information hubs. In the web2 it has been a bait to fish data and exploit users. This websites owners care little to less as long as the cash keeps flowing their way. Should we then continue to trust them? This is no debate or criticism but a mere truth would be to adopt web3 potential. There have been rumors of web3 not being able to achieve this any time soon. Could you remember what I said about the limited access to information in my first paragraph? It will serve as a game changer in web3 favor.

As users gain more exposure about how internet operates and the money that encircles the whole system, they'll be a lot of reconsideration of where fair rewards and online sincerity(security and privacy) can be found. Adding to that, assets and funds security will remain a TOP priority as we keep storing most of our riches in virtual forms. You wouldn't want to wake up one day and find yourself drained of your worthwhile accumulation.

To conclude, let me add, there are a lot of fraudulent acts that center the web. This exploitation has been leverage in web2 platforms for a long time. The need to curb data and media trafficking needs to be on every users list. It's not about if they like it, the straight forward question is, do you want a correction? If yes, I would see the need to opt in for privacy and data secured platforms which blockchain tech has presented through web3.
