These "failed" inventions don't always turn out to failures. For example, one of the chemical engineers at 3M was trying to create an adhesive that would never fail. Instead he got an adhesive that would stick but could be peeled off without leaving any residue on whatever it was stuck on. Can you guess what that was? Post-It Notes. Now one of the most successful and lucrative products in 3M's 120yr + history.

You are right. The scientists learn from these failed inventions and come up with much improved and advanced product.
