The Evolution of Transportation and the Future of MRT in Singapore
It’s amazing how technology can change many aspects of our lives. It was in 1885 when the first modern car was made known to the public through a newspaper. Before that, it was the horse-drawn carriage that occupied the streets. After 76 years, mankind has sent the first person to space. And then 8 years after that, mankind recorded the first step on the moon. Those are the historic moments in the advancement of transportation.
And in 6 years from now, mankind is targeting to send a crew to Mars. That’s going to be an epic feat for the people of Earth.
Meanwhile, on land, advancements in land transportation are also happening. From modern cars with gas/diesel engines, we are shifting from combustion-type engines to electric motor types. It’s said to be cleaner and will have less environmental impact.
When it comes to the mass transit system, aside from electric public buses, more and more routes are being added to the Mass Rapid Transit system. In the city of Singapore, there is a total of 230 km network of rails that were built in the past 37 years. Then a target of an additional 130KM network of rails is intended to be completed by the 2030s. These values are amazing considering that Singapore is only 50 km from east to west and 27 km from north to south. Even the 193KM total length of coastline is much less than the current total length of the network of rails.
The development has already outdone itself and yet they still intend to improve it by at least 50% more. How awesome!
I’ve visited the newly opened MRT stations along the south-eastern coast and I was astounded by the scale of the interior. The modern design of the interior makes me feel that I’m living in the future. From the clever use of space and natural lighting, they made the interior look so contemporary and spacious.
The older generations of MRT stations feel cramped and a bit suffocating. The latest versions feel like I’m in a huge spacecraft.
The ornaments on the ceiling appear different depending on the view angle. Each angle looks interesting and unique. I like how they blend natural light with artificial light.
The multi-leveled platform makes me feel that the future has arrived!
I wonder what would be the new development will look like in the 2030s. It’s an exciting time ahead!
Wow, it looks like some airport.👏👏
