Trojan in a Video Game: Beware of State Sponsored Free Games on Steam!

I enjoy using Steam to play classics like Fallout, Stardew Valley and Life is Strange...

But there's an alarming number of games (more than 0) that are visually very splashy and alluringly FREE -- but come with a trojan virus, system modification that is unsafe for the user, or something along those lines.

I've spotted at least two adult games and themed 'war' or 'historic' games - even MMORPGS - and others that come with very stern reviews by techie users.

For example:

  • Sexy game in 3D with stunning graphics uses GPU for mining and or other backdoor activities, concealed only by high resource usage (I'm not a technical user, so somewhat ignorant of the exploits).
  • Stunning 3D game or MMORPG that's completely free but requires disabling various protocols that protect your Operating System or Hardware
  • Highly GPU intensive games that seduce gamers will likely be the most dangerous games to download (if free), as it is beneficial to make a zombie machine out of a high end GPU rig

Sadly, Steam does not seem to disable or ban these companies from publishing to Steam. I think they should for the safety of users, but as it stands, best beware and look at those reviews. Other users who are knowledgeable will surely post their detailed report on these TROJAN video games from states like CHINA, US, and RUSSIA.

I have yet to see a NK state sponsored game, but if it is an MMORPG or has really splashy graphics without any subscription or price tag, think twice.

Think twice, stay safe. If free, ask why. Look at the reviews for highly rated warnings by other players.
