Audio Reactive Feedback with Matte
In this tutorial we are building a complete visual effect from the ground up using one of my favorite operators in TouchDesigner, the Matte TOP.
We start by creating a simple moving text animation that acts as our matte. Even though the setup is straightforward, it creates a really satisfying reveal as images and videos appear only where the text passes across the screen.
From there we take things much further.
Using a Feedback TOP, we create a flowing trail effect and make it react to music. We animate the feedback with Translate and Scale so every beat pushes and stretches the visuals, giving the whole composition a sense of motion without making the network overly complicated.
By the end of the tutorial you will understand how to combine matte based reveals, feedback, translation, scaling, and audio reactivity into a single effect that you can expand into your own projects.
If you enjoy learning TouchDesigner and want to keep building with me, every project file from my tutorials is available on Patreon for just $3 a month.
