These Monumental Edifices Really Fascinate Me

The wonders of past never cease to amaze me. Have you considered things of the past as well? By looking at them you get a glimpse into the incredible progress humanity has made over time.Take inventions that was made in the past for example, you will appreciate the fact that our world has undergone massive transformations to reach where we are now.

These inventions we see today never happened overnight. One of the questions that I often ask everytime I see any ancient creations, be it inventions, buildings, or others is: how did they manage to accomplish or build this when they did not have most of the advanced technologies, tools, and machinery we have today ?

A good example is the Giza or Khufu pyramids of Egypt; They are masterpiece, such an outstanding creation that I would say was done by people who were really skillful. I read that the marvelous pyramids were built with 2.3 million stone blocks and If these stones were sourced from various locations, what kind of machinery did they use to transport them?

They claim many skilled labourers were used for the construction, and if that was so, how many were needed? How did they carry those huge stones that weigh 2.3 metric tonnes equivalent to 2300kg. This is like the weight of typical small car, such an incredible work of engineering done in the past. It's amazing looking at their sizes and great precision. I think there is so much to it that we haven't yet figured out and so I will leave it now.

During a recent visit to Oxford, I saw many beautiful places filled with stunning architecture. I was with my colleagues and we decided to to use the Hop-on, Hop-off bus. This bus tours the city and gives you a nice experience to see the city's historical sites. You will do 20 stops with the bus and with every stop there are remarkable landmarks.

Although we couldn't do all the 20 stops, but the ones we did made us discover notable historical locations. First destination was the Christ Church but I think it was at the 8th Stop. This church is massive, it's magnificence caught my eye immediately. As a Christian, I find so much joy when I see church buildings like these, especially those with deep historical roots. Christ Church, Oxford, I read began as in the 8th century.

It was Cardinal Wolsey who transformed it into a grand college in the 16th century. Later, Henry VIII refund it to Christ Church making it the cathedral for the Diocese of Oxford. This institution has since produced numerous influential figures in politics, literature, and academia.

We couldn't explore the interior but rather explored its exterior. There were so many people around, some I guess were on tour just like us.

I had heard so much about the renowned University of Oxford when I was very young, I had longed to see the institution for myself one day. Visiting Oxford to me was one of my aspirations come true. I was particularly impressed when I learned that Oxford University comprises 43 constituent colleges, no wonder it's such a massive institution.

I wish I had studied at Oxford, It would have been a source of great pride, being part of the institution that has educated so many notable figures. We explored the university's grounds, where we discovered more about the rich history and vibrant atmosphere of the iconic institution.

So at Oxford we walked the streets and it was just a great sightseeing. We stopped at the museum of Natural History to have glimpse of nature. This Meseum I would say is filled with many artifacts or it's a collection of almost all of the world's animals. There were collections from animals(remains) that were real, like the humpback whale skull, the collections of several gems from different places around the world and others.

Even those that looked unreal or a replica of real animals, you could see that they clearly looked so real, those that designed them put great artistry skill to work. When I sat close to the bear for a picture, I felt like I was in a movie scene already. Wish I could get close to these creatures in real life like that or say have one of these beast as a pet. I guess I would need more money to keep such lovely creations of God.

One thing that I saw mostly around was the insects, there were too many of them. I learned that, of all animals in the world, insects form about 78% and so I wasn't surprise to see so many of them around. We also explored libraries and other places which all have some great records of History. In all of our tours, I was particularly impressed about one thing and that was the creations of the past, the kind of buildings I saw made me ponder over how far we've come and how great the skills of olden days were.

These are not just buildings, but a true work of Art by people who were very skilled. Even though the world has seen so much innovations but these beautiful edifices of the old can still rub shoulders with modern day buildings. I can confidently say lots of them still outshine some modern ones in terms of strength and beauty.
