Old Tech in 2023

Hi fellow Lions,

Today I wanted to complain a little bit about how we get strangled by behemoths that force us to use old tech.

Old Tech in 2023

I don't always like to talk shit about things that are beyond my control but this one here really made me laugh..

IMG_1657.jpg

I've talked about how my wife and I use credit cards to our advantage, where we put almost everything on the credit cards except for when we go to small local businesses where we use cash. Everything else goes on the credit cards and we pay them off twice a month. This has a really good boost to our credit score as it shows us with low balances for the cards and the debt ratio that we have, as well as having many years of consistently making payments and never missing a payment. We are able to get some pretty good perks from this method, where we get cash back and have a fairly good amount of net spending per month and a good return on our credit with the consistent payments and low rolling balances.

What the core of this post though is how ridiculous some of the banking systems are! We have one card that we got and one of the things that really pisses me off is that I can't schedule to pay the card off from two bank accounts in the same day. We do this because we separate out the business funds from the personal ones, where the business expenses go on one card and the personal ones usually go on the other. We do forget sometimes to use the personal card for all that and will use the business one. We don't make it so that it's an official business credit card and all the rules that surround that to prevent people from laundering money and shit, we just have one credit card we intentionally put all business expenses on and one that we don't.

We will occasionally forget one of the cards at home or something and have to use the business one which is no big deal, as it all really goes to the same spots anyways. We didn't realize how annoying this one bank is though! The one that we use for this, they only allow you to make one payment transaction in a day. It's fucking 2023, what do you mean you can only handle one payment transaction from us to you, to pay off our balances, in a day?! What the fuck dude, that shit is something they accomplished in the early 2000's lol. This shit is wild! I was confused the first time I saw the error, thinking that I must have had a glitch in the app so I went to the website and struggled to do the same process. Same result on the website! I was flabbergasted at something so foolish..

This makes me laugh at how much of an improvement the digital asset / cryptocurrency technology is to these ancient behemoths in the banking industry. If a developer or a coin / asset like Bitcoin told somebody that they can only do a payment transaction to them once a day, but can do unlimited spend / credit transactions in a day, people would freak the fuck out and cancel their shit. It makes no sense as a bank in the year 2023 to not allow a customer to pay off their balance from more than one account in the same day. It is horrible for people like us who run our own small business and will need to sometimes mix personal and business transactions, as well want to split the payment from business accounts and personal accounts but still pay off the same card. Because the banks are entrenched into so many aspects of our lives and the bowels of the government, they have minimal competition on a real scale because if you don't like it, most people won't get up and find something better.

I've figured out a workaround to the pretty annoying issue where I schedule one payment for today and one for tomorrow, knowing that the payments are technically offset by a day, but still get paid overall within a couple days but damn it, I shouldn't have to figure out something so trivial! I would love to ask the company what year their system is from, because I can almost guarantee it's early 2000's and they are cheap fucks that refuse to upgrade the backend infrastructure to allow such easy and straightforward operations.

Am I off base with this complaint here!? I certainly hope not lol.

I wonder if it's that they don't upgrade, or if they intentionally leave it that way in the hopes you'll forget to make a payment and have to pay more interest...

Yeah the banks are indeed pretty foolish. I don't know if crypto being better is a good thing or a bad thing..
