No Phone Family Time

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to chat about how important it is to have time associated with the people around us!

No Phone Family Time

I am lucky enough to have grown up in a time where I experienced life before all of this internet and computer stuff. I am not that old, but old enough to have fond memories before it all.

One of the very important things that I remember and enjoyed were the times that I was able to spend with my family and friends being social and focused on each other. What is a real big issue these days is that everyone has their noses stuffed into their phones and are ignoring the people around them in favor of a few lines on a device about shit that largely is most likely relatively useless for them in their lives overall.

One of the important things that I do as a father and as a husband is that I make sure I am NOT on my phone when I am around my wife and son. I know this may be a revolutionary thing in the day we live in, however it is extremely important. I could certainly sit there and mess around on Hive or something else when they are both in the room with me or if I'm at a restaurant with them but what the hell is the point of being with them if my attention isn't on them? Is it so much to ask for, to have people you are with to give them your attention?

I think that's the crux of it all right there though, your attention.

There is so much focus and effort put into garnering the attention of people for siphoning off money that they make the platforms, games and other things associated with our devices drawing your attention like a sieve. I wonder if because I was so highly addicted to gaming and broke my addiction to that, if I am more sensitive to this type of thing than other people are.

It just makes sense though.. if you think about it. We are humans, we are social beings and we are also physical beings. We are supposed to be interacting with the people in our physical space as much as possible but this technology that we have in our pockets, on our computers and on the television is something so different from a historical perspective that we are drawn to it so that we can escape a little bit and be transported to another place even for just a few seconds. I think that's certainly the allure of it all.

I know that my son is the primary focus of my life, with my wife of course, but he is at such an impressionable age that I have to be ontop of my game as much as possible. There are so many things that they see and pick up on, and me giving him all of my attention as much as possible but in a reasonable way of course, is one of the primary ways that I am trying to raise him in the right fashion. I know that I can't always be there for him, with my need to work and do other things but when I am not working or doing household chores, he gets my attention free of a device in my hand and I think that's been a very important experience for him. He gets to see me as he should - focused on him and the world around me instead of a device and to people who mean little in the physical realm.

I think more people are seeing the issues with devices and trying to make steps to changing it. I listened to a podcast yesterday that was talking of the same thing, although dedicated to children. There is a significant amount of attention being given to it of late, I hope that we can find the right balance between these things so that we can use the technology effectively but also be present in the world without substantial negative consequences for those around us.

What about you - have you tried to minimize your use of technology so you can be more social and present with the people around you? Have you enjoyed it?

You have spoken really well, and I even love this post more when I read the part that you are mostly doing all of these because you know your son is watching you and he has the tendency of picking up things easily now.

Really, the internet our phones have got our attention more these days and we just have to be intentional about not letting it take it all especially when we are around people (family).

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful write up with us on #dreemport because I won't have read it if you didn't 🤗

That's great that it inspired some of you on the dreem side to take a visit! I don't know much of the group but it sounds like a discord gang :D I engaged with dreem a while back, if I'm thinking of the right woman!

It's so important to try to be as good of a person and present if a person as we can for the kids. There's so much time later in life to be doing other things but for their young years, it's crucial that we make it as good of an experience as we can so they grow up in the right fashion instead of one that perpetuates the weakness and laziness of so many, and the addiction to technology!

Yes!!! She's Dreemsteem! Well it's not a discord group but a site where we share posts and curate them from Monday to Friday!

You can check out the site https://dreemport.com/.

Yeah, it might be quite challenging adjusting at some point but then it's going to be all worth it when our kids grow up to be the best.

I indeex agree with you, every once in a while we should indeed practice no phone time to focus spending time with family and loved ones. In today's age even children are just too focused in gadgets that they forget associating with other people and socializing. It is a good way to value time with family indeed. Must do it atleast once a week!

Yeah absolutely we need to focus on those around us as much as we can! It's especially important for the children because they deserve it but also require it for their growth and development.

It's high time we change the attitude of pressing our phones during family time or hanging out with friends, it does no good at all. Infact it's a form of disrespect to them.

I like the fact that you are giving your son maximum attention whenever you are with him and not concentrating on your phone. Invariably he's learning and will grow up to doing so to his family.

I enjoyed reading this and I saw it courtesy of #dreemport

Yeah I'm trying to raise a good husband and father that's for sure! I know I've made mistakes, as we all have, but I'm trying to do my best for him to see what it should be like and to emulate what can happen if we focus on those around us! Technology has its place but we absolutely need to make sure that we keep the physical separated from the digital.

yeahhh....it's very important
phones make slaves of people
When I noticed it captured my attention, I stopped taking it in hands without a great need.

Oh for sure! I'm glad you noticed, it's so important for the kiddos to experience this phone free time with us!

There are even times when you’d see couples go on dates or deciding to have family time but when they get to the venue, all they can do is press their phones and stay glued to them. We’re giving our phones too much attention than family and it isn’t really nice

You are right. We spend more time on out phones more than we spend with our loved ones. It's good to always keep a balance.

Came in from dreemport.

Absolutely we need to improve the balance so that we don't let our loved ones, especially the kids, go down the wrong path!

It is good to spend a quality time with one's family. I am guilty of always being with my phone while with my family. This post inspired me to have a change of mind tonight. Thank you for the insight.

I hope you do make changes! Don't force yourself to do it all at once, take it in steps. Make it a point to put your phone down every few minutes to start and eventually grow to the point where you focus on the people we are with more than our phones. It's important to take it one step at a time, that helps build it for success!

It is a fact that because of the phone, all of us have lost that love. Every person keeps using his mobile phone, so whenever there is a meeting with family or with friends, the mobile phone should be kept at home. It has been very hot in the city and the weather in your city is very beautiful.

The phone can be kept with us but we should practice restraint to not use it constantly and have it for an emergency but the people we are with should be the focus of attention!

I'm guilty of always being online but I also have time to play with my kids and I give them kisses together or when we decide to sing altogether in the bed.
