AI //THE PERILS AND PROMISES

When the whole AI inclusion thing became a rave, more like, when the internet busted with the technological advancements and capabilities of the system, some one/two hear(s) ago, there was both praises and scare about it.

I usually never talk about
The direction I see computer intelligence taking is, I think, more in the area of cognitive aid rather then actual full Al. So,
the thing. We already have the ability to create intelligence, as, evidently, the AI system is a product of man's mind and craft.

When you stop and think about everything that has to exist to enable even just the simplest recreation of what allows the human brain to do what it does, it quickly becomes apparent that you're looking at a lot of effort with little benefit.
Even when you compare it to other areas where automatation/Al/etc have had an impact, it really isn't a case of replacing humans, but actually one of supplementing humans. And therein lies the future.

The downside to such a future, of course, is the whole "what happens when it stops working" question. In that regard, I share what I think are the perils and promises of the AI-system in our society.

Perceived perils

▪︎ Dependence
This is already becoming a problem. At least, from my point of view, I already can see some issues here. For example, in school, I see a lot of my mates refusing to make their own research and do in-depth studies, they'd say that why should they when ChatGtp offers quick and concise answers. I just think that its important to keep basic knowledge active and pass it unto coming grneration(s), just incase the system collapses. It's just reasonable to see that as we use the system for more and more, we begin to lose touch with our own capabilities and lean on the system for even the basic tasks.

▪︎Time
With lesser technical tasks to handle, humans get the extra to spend with family, explore more of the arts and especially delve into other areas of endeavor as they so please.

▪︎ Occupational hazard
It's not unlikely that the labour market will face tumult. With machines performing more tasks than humans and very quickly and with efficiency, job displacement becomes rampant particularly in establishments with repetitive, low-skilled workers, making the gap between the rich and poor even wider.

▪︎ Control
With so much use and dependence on the system, there will become a haze of who/what has an upper hand above the other.
You know, we need the system and it needs us too, yet, there might develop a thrall-attachment mostly by humans to the tools. It's just going to be like an overlap of two entities. Also, think about the AI system making significant decisions without empathy nor moral judgement.

....and some more.

Promises.

▪︎ Ease
This is arguably the foremost reason why we have technological advancements. The ability to reduce tedious mental and even physical labour is why first, we appreciate the system.

▪︎ Time
Yet, with so much luxury of time that humans may get, they may delve into depression for lack of what to do/idleness. It's will be a lot easier to lose the motivation and drive to exercise full capabilities, as, there exists a system that can effectively handle that, and in short notice too.

▪︎ Better Healthcare
There will be better health services, quick and accurate diagnosis and even early treatment which will improve the health conditions of humans and by extension, quality of life. Not to forget early detection of probable disease outbreaks that would be nipped in the bud.

▪︎ Increased efficiency and productivity
The system would better handle and analyze large amounts of data, make quicker decisions that may be more objective and hence, lead to higher productivity at lesser cost.

▪︎Improved security/Safety
The AI system can be efficient in sectors like manufacturing/production that can be hazardous and delicate, thereby reducing these risks and curbing errors. There's also the aspect of providing improved defense against attacks and banditry.

...and lots more.

One thing, I guess, which you may have noticed from reading through the pros and cons of AI which I have stated, is that, in every pro, there exist a con. Maybe we can call it, the two-sides of the coin.

Whatever ills come out of the use of AI, we'll all have to bear it cause, frankly, we let it get to that point. Or don't you think so?

Hey, I think it’s ChatGpt not Gtp.
Anyway, that’s true. I’m not a victim because AI wasn’t even around when I was in school but then I know people that use AI for very important work projects and it just gets me thinking. What if they get fired and replaced with AI..will they be okay with that though.

The high level of dependency is choking life already. A lot of people, I mean a whole lot of people don't want to make use of their brain again...the brain that God gave them to do something 😂
