Greetings, friends of the #AmazingNature community. Welcome to my blog. Today is the last Tuesday of July, which is drawing to a close, so we must make the most of every opportunity we have today. We must learn about the value and importance of our environment, and one of the best ways we can honour our Creator is by cherishing the gifts He bestows upon us through Mother Nature.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, from the balcony of my bedroom at home, with its view of Mount Ávila in Caracas, the plant I’m showing you looks very well-looked-after and healthy, with plenty of potential to keep growing.
The plant I want to focus on today is a Jade Plant (Crassula ovata), also popularly known as the jade tree or money plant. By growing this plant directly in the ground, I am creating a low-water-use area, known as xeriscaping, which is currently a popular trend in ornamental gardening due to its sustainability and ease of maintenance.

La planta en la que quiero centrarme hoy es una Planta de Jade (Crassula ovata), también conocida popularmente como árbol de jade o planta del dinero. Al tener esta planta en el suelo directo, estoy creando un área de bajo consumo de agua, lo cual se denomina xeriscape, que es una tendencia valorada actualmente en la jardinería ornamental por sus sostenibilidad y facilidad de mantenimiento.

Care: As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves and stems, so it requires infrequent watering (allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings) and plenty of light.

I’d like to share a few tips on how to look after them:
- Watering: As they’re outdoors and planted directly in the ground, good drainage is essential. Make sure the soil doesn’t retain too much moisture, as their roots are prone to rotting if they remain waterlogged. Water only when the soil feels dry to the touch.
- Light: This plant loves sunlight. Being outdoors allows it to receive the light it needs to keep its stems strong and compact, preventing them from ‘limping’ (growing weak in search of light).

The jade plant I’ve shared with you is hardy amongst outdoor and indoor ornamental plants, so it’s essential to maintain its healthy appearance, as it has a very distinct architectural structure.
The jade plant, with its miniature tree-like appearance, is highly prized in landscaping and the art of bonsai, an ancient Eastern practice that involves growing trees and shrubs in small pots, controlling their size to mimic the form and spirit of a large tree in the wild.
Resilience: As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves, allowing it to withstand periods of drought without losing its visual appeal.
Visual Care:
To keep jade looking neat and tidy, it is advisable to occasionally wipe dust from the leaves with a damp cloth; this not only improves their appearance but also aids photosynthesis.
La planta de Jade que les he compartido, es resistentes dentro del mundo de las plantas ornamentales para exteriores e interiores, por lo que es clave mantener esa estética saludable, pues posee una estructura arquitectónica muy definida.

If the leaves remain firm and smooth, this is a clear sign that my jade plant is healthy and well-hydrated. The fact that they are firm indicates that it is being watered appropriately, as this helps to respect its natural cycle, allowing the plant to manage its water reserves effectively.
- It is adapting well to the soil: Despite being planted directly in the ground, the drainage and soil composition seem to suit it well, as it shows no signs of dehydration (wrinkling) or overwatering (soft or yellowing leaves).
In conclusion, simply by maintaining the current care routine – and as a suggestion as it grows – if the soil becomes too compacted, I can carefully loosen the surface around the base to aerate the roots, which will help the trunk to continue thickening and strengthening.
Having a garden at home is an excellent way to connect with nature, bringing tranquillity and well-being into my home, as well as assessing the space, choosing the right plants and preparing the soil correctly.
