It's Been Good... And Not Good!
The world has come far with regard to civilization, and as things unfold, we’ll only keep going further. Right from the time of the cavemen, humanity has witnessed stages of evolution, and even today, we’re still evolving.
So many of the things we used to do before are no longer, and for the thing we still do, we developed a better way of doing it. Not too long ago, I learned that the chainsaw wasn’t invented for cutting trees, but for medical surgeries to aid childbirth. Most especially for CS deliveries. It’s a gory tale, so I’m not going into all that. I’m just trying to point out how far chainsaws and surgeries have come. That’s evolution for you!
The change or growth is all around us, our mindset, our beliefs, our cultures, everything evolved. As we keep meeting new people and learning their cultures, it influences ours and that’s how the change comes. Over time, we just realize that we no longer do the things we used to do, or we’re suddenly doing it way better than we used to.
And for me, one of the highlights of civilization is our access to information. Thanks to the digital age, the world seemed to shrink in size and we have information at our fingertips. Without leaving your country, you can learn everything there is to know about an entirely different country. You can know their way of life, the kind of food they eat and any other thing you want. If you’re so inclined, you might even learn their language. Without having to step foot in their country! That’s how crazy it is.
In the past, if you wanted to learn about somewhere, you had to go there. And most of the time, there weren’t a lot of written texts and you had to rely on word of mouth, which changed a bit with every telling. Things have changed so much now.
There’s just so much you can learn. With a few clicks, you can go online to learn how to drive a car, you can learn how to troubleshoot your device, and you can know what happened in some other state. In this day and age, our access to information and data has helped us to keep up with the rest of the world. We learn about more and more people and once in a while, we could take a leaf or two from their books and apply it in our lives. That’s how cultures evolve and all.
And sadly though, this easy access to information also seems to be the problem we face. It just seems that the more we learn, the more terrible we get. Technology doesn’t care about intentions or the greater good, it only does what it’s used for. Deep down, we’re still the same humans that used to suffer before technology became mainstream, only that now we’re handling it better.
People have always killed each other, now we do it better. You can wipe out an entire country with the push of a button, from the safety of your own country so far away that you won’t even feel the force of the blast. People have always healed the sick, we do it better now, thereby raising our life expectancy.
The access to information is not selective of the information, it displays all kinds of information. Both the ones that’ll get us in trouble and the kind that’ll most likely damn our souls to hell. Everyone uses the internet to pass on their message, and in their own minds, they’re correct and the voice of reason. So, they put out their content and hope it can win converts.
This doesn’t really work well because just about anyone can come up and put up something. I can come here and claim that I’m a surgeon, and that’s all you’ll have to go with. Nothing else to prove I am, except my word. I could provide a certificate but that can easily be faked. I could go to Chat GPT to draft a pretty sophisticated essay on some pretty sophisticated topic that’ll be sure to blow your mind. Once I get you to believe that I’m indeed a doctor, my job is done. You’ll start coming to me for whatever ails you, and I’ll make you pay dearly for it.
You see, we’ve always had quacks, but even in the past, the quacks knew a thing or two about whatever they were pretending to be. Now, you don’t have to know jack! Someone can work as a sales rep at a pharmacy down the street for six months, then because he has ten followers on Instagram, he suddenly decides that he knows all about the human anatomy. Or a lady who learned how to make soap decided that she would do better making a skin care product.
When you come to the online space, everyone is a professional but no evidence! As you’re working with them, you’ll follow it up with a sprinkling of Hope and a Hail Mary. You can never really know if you’re working with the real deal and the only way to know for sure is after the fact, when what you ordered for turns out not to be what you got. By then, it just might be too late.
It’s a scary world we live in, and as the world goes digital, we just have to be careful. Everyone is out to get you, never forget that! That little amount of money you’ve got, everyone wants to take it from you! By hook or by crook, so no matter what you do, be vigilant! It’s so easy to get scammed, and being careful will not always save you. But still, be vigilant. Take proactive steps to make sure that you’re not a regular customer of these bloodsuckers.
Information is key. But that key is useless until you have the right lock.
chainsaws and surgeries ? Really, I am yet to notice this. How will the cesarean section area look like using a chainsaw . I have been awake all through my three surgeries while giving birth and I saw the doctors with sharp knife...full of blood coming out of my Tommy... imagine a chainsaw..God oo 😂
Wow, Bruno you dissected this topic with your view... it's interesting how we can from here in Nigeria learn about other people's culture in another country all because of civilization. However, the negative aspects keep increasing but then, it's in our hands to stay alert, escape being a victim in any way where possible and enjoy the goodness of civilization on our world today 🌎
Na that chainsaw shock me pass 😅😂
Hahaha 😂😂🤣
E shock me too
Now , I have to do more research on this.. and see how the picture of the chainsaw looks like..lol
For those that had to give birth during the 1900s the story might have been different. It was considered the safest method at the time. To the point that when safer methods were developed, it was hard to deviate.
Even as late as 1980s some countries were still using it.
People had to protest before their governments intervened.
It's a very scary notion, I know. When you think of it, you can imagine how painful it must have been. Now consider how it had to be before the chainsaw.
Sends chills down my spine...😬
Evolution is always bound to happen because we learn new things everyday so I can imagine when they first discovered they could actually use chainsaw for something else, not everyone would have agreed then. Humans always find it hard to adapt to change but then it seems like civilization has a way of getting us to change really quickly.
This world is full of evil and we can't deny that fact because it's everywhere around us. The information we have access to is something that can either make or mar us. Indeed being careful will not guarantee our safety completely but we just have to be vigilant like you said.
Civilization is something that we can't fight, it will always keep going to the next level and we humans will always try to adjust to fit in and that's why we need to always remember who we are so we don't get swayed by everything.
Indeed... We can't fight civilization, no matter how hard we try. We see that in almost everything we do. We have no power over where it takes us, the least we can do is to get comfy for the ride.
That's right, let's always get ready for any changes because they will surely come, hehe
I remember one time my mom was sharing her story on how she usually sent money to her son who was with her mother in the village, she said mistrimes she never knee if the money got to her as there was no means to communicate.
Civilization has changed a lot of things communication is one and also getting information is another
You have stated quite a good point here.👌
Omo... Now, you can send money and in five minutes, you're already calling your bank about it.
Imagine not even knowing if the money got to who it was intended. And no way of knowing for sure.
Omo...
Chainsaw 😅... Thank God for advancement in technology bro!
Now we have access to information but the government do try to restrict some info to the public, for instance it is difficult or even impossible to find information on how to make a bomb on the internet. They make sure that such dangerous information are not open to the public.
Yeah...
The bit about the government is just as old as time. Those in power have always used information to control their subjects. They twist now they want, withhold what they want, or straight up lie.
With civilization, they found an easier way to do all that.

I read this information about chainsaw and surgeries for the first time. That must be scary.
Civilization has helped a lot to pass information. In the past, people died of road accident in trying to travel to deliver a message. You can now stay in the comfort of your home and pass message to any recipient. Some knowledge are easily and freely acquired through the accessibility to information. One needs to be careful of destructive information. We need to be vigilant truly.
Even before cars, what about when mails had to cross the seas? Back then, the only proof you had of your mail reaching the intended is when they send a reply.
That's true.
The online space is very dangerous. It is full of different people and different things
We've got scammers, robots and so much more
We have to be very careful
Indeed... So many things out here. One can never be too careful.
Very true, sometimes when I read up on past events, I laugh and marvel at them. Some things we have got on a platter of gold in this current time started on a platter of 'mud'. Even in surgeries then, they did it without anaesthesia. Imagine the pain. Now, people could choose how they want their surgeries done with little to no side effect or pain.
We have a lot of things easy now. But I'm certain that fifty years from now, the generation of the time will be marveling at how we too are surviving in this era
Exactly, that is how it has always been and that's how it will continue to be..
Times and seasons change..
For many things, we need to pay the price and in the case of civilization, we are also paying the price and we can't avoid it. But we can try to reduce the effect if we want but unfortunately, it's almost nearly impossible because each human thinks differently and for the benefit, many of us won't hesitate to take the negative sides.
We're all different, and civilization touches us all differently. You're right though, civilization comes at a cost, and whether we want to or not we'll pay it. One way or the other.
That's just a fact.
Yeah that is right. The world have gone through alot of changes and still going through alot. But we also have alot of evil to battle with as a result of civilization. We really need to be careful.
Thanks for sharing.
It's all to do with the times as well, I guess.
The access to information and communication in this era is vast and easier than it was then. Imagine being in school here and trying to write to my parents about issues I have; the time frame to sending the letter and receiving their response will be so frustrating.
I feel the generation of now are tilting more towards the bad part of civilisation.
About the chainsaw being used for child delivery especially CS.... Thank God for civilisation because the pain from cutting and then healing will be too much.
And when the parents want to send the money, they do it with the mail. Meaning they have to trust whoever the messenger is. The only good thing is that back then, good name was more important than it is now.
People only just care about interests.
As the world goes digital, everyone is out to scam everyone and its almost like a cyber jungle out there. Really scary.
It's a jungle indeed... Everyone is out to get you. If you're not careful, you'll fall victim.
Be careful out there. 🙂
