CODOPHILA VARIA IS A LOVELY SHIELD BUG

Yes, this colorful species from the Pentatomidae family is kinda lovely. It is very similar to the Carpocoris purpureipennis, another species from the same family that appeared in many of my old posts. Unlike the Carpocoris purpureipennis, however, which I encounter very often here in my area, this is the first appearance of the Codophila varia on my blog here on Hive.
I photographed it a long time ago, somewhere in the northern part of Istria. Probably about 70 - 100 kilometers from where I live.
The markings on its upper surface and the contrasts between its colors are much more accentuated than in Carpocoris purpureipennis.
These shield bugs are polyphagous, which means they feed on more than one type of plant, but are mainly found on Asteraceae and Apiaceae species.

And that's it. It's all for today. Hope you like stinkbugs. As always here on Hive, the photographs are my work.

Really interesting photographs! I'm always struck by how beautiful and unique these little insects can be when observed up close. Codophila varia has truly distinctive colors and patterns. Stink bugs produce unpleasant-smelling substances to defend themselves from predators, and that smell really bothers me. However, the fact remains that nature always manages to surprise us, even through such tiny creatures!

Yes, nature is full of wonders. Insects and spiders are especially cool becouse there is an incredible number of species and even more incredible diversity of shapes, colors, and markings. Even behaviours and interactions with each other and plants are quite diverse and interesting. And most importantly, they are everywhere - no need to go on a safari to witness an amazing wildlife scene; a magnifying lens is enough. I encounter some crazy macro things from time to time without having to leave the house.🙂

The sure have pretty colorations don't they? Those were some excellent macro shots you got there. I've never seen anything from that genus so colorful her in the US. Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
