24 FRAGMENTS OF A SUNNY SUMMER DAY

The 7th of August was a typically hot summer day. The year was 2015, and I took a walk to Vizula, an archeological park near the harbor of my hometown. I have a little less than a kilometer from my house to Vizula.

In this opening GIF, you can see a diurnal moth feeding on the flower of the thistle. The simple animation was created with three shots taken in Vizula. In the following photograph ...

... you can take a look at the rose photographed in my neighborhood.

A bit further on my walk to Vizula, I photographed some kind of flag on one of the houses by the side of the road that leads from the center of the old town to the sea.

Near the harbor, I photographed the beautiful flowers of the Persian silk trees (Albizia julibrissin).

After some more walking, I reached Vizula.

Most photographs shown in today's post were taken there.

Here you can see a Lactuca saligna flower.

I was there relatively early in the morning, around 8 AM.

The sunlight wasn't too strong ...

... and details found in the pine grove looked great in that beautiful morning light.

The moth around the thistle was the most interesting encounter on that occasion.

This is the Macroglossum stellatarum ...

... commonly known as the Hummingbird hawk-moth, a species from the Sphingidae family.

This is a very common moth here where I live and throughout Euroasia, I photographed it many times, but seeing it feeding on big flowers like some kind of hummingbird is always a joy. While I was observing the Hummingbird hawk-moth ...

... another interesting insect came to feed on the flowers offered by the Cirsium vulgare plant. This big, colorful fly belongs to the Syrphidae family. With its size & colors, Volucella zonaria mimics the European hornet.

In this pretty generic shot, you can see a bit of generic vegetation around the trunk of an old pine tree, one of the many tall pines of Vizula.

Here you take a more up-close look at the beautifully illuminated foliage of some small, shrub-like deciduous trees.

The Lactuca saligna plant was introduced earlier in the post. Here you can see two more flowers.

In this photograph, you can see more details of the same plant.

This is a detail of the dry Briza maxima grass.

I don't know what to tell you here. Just another generic shot. Plants. Sunlight. All that good stuff.

Here you can see a seed. Can't tell you what plant produced it.

And that's it.

AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.

Stunning photos mate - as usual. My favourite this time round was your pic of volucella zonaria.. I thought it was a bee, with it's remarkable body. You captured the wings with such clarity as well! Thanks mate. #legend

Superb photos, I love how the light catches the leaves and flowers on so many of your photos (especially the Moths). Really beautiful lighting effects on extremely dark backgrounds !LOLZ 👏
