Rocket Lab going to the MOON - CAPSTONE [Live: 28.06.2022, 09:50 UTC]

EDIT1: Rocket Lab is takeing an extra 24 hours for final checkout. It will have no influence on the arrival time at the planned lunar orbit.

Rocket Lab will be sending a 300kg payload in an orbit around the Moon for NASA. The experiment is called "Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment" (CAPSTONE).

There are two main objectives:

  • study this specific, verry efficient, orbit around the Moon.
  • testing of navigation technology

The launch takes place at Mahia Peninsula, Launch Complex 1A, in New Zealand. There will be no attempt at recovering the first stage.
